[newbie] MPlayer install: NCurses problem
I am trying install mplayer-0.17-1.20010501.i686.rpm. It needs some files because dependencies, one of them (libtinfo.so.5) #rpm -i mplayer-0.17-1.20010501.i686.rpm error: failed dependencies: libtinfo.so.5 is needed by mplayer-0.17-1.20010501 I could find it into ncurses-5.2-4.i686.rpm in rpmfind.net. But when I try to install it says that is installed a newer version 5.2-12mdk. #rpm -i ncurses-5.2-4.i686.rpm package ncurses-5.2-12mdk (which is newer than ncurses-5.2-4) is already installed file /lib/libncurses.so.5.2 from install of ncurses-5.2-4 conflicts with file from package libncurses5-5.2-12mdk file /usr/bin/clear from install of ncurses-5.2-4 conflicts with file from package ncurses-5.2-12mdk --here will continue the long list of conflicts-- I can't erase newer version and install old one because dependencies. #rpm -e ncurses error: removing these packages would break dependencies: ncurses is needed by libncurses5-5.2-12mdk ncurses is needed by perl-Curses-1.05-2mdk Any ideas to get mplayer installed successfully? Re: [newbie] WebWasher - I uninstalled it but it's still there
First try to repeat your previos process with software manager login as root. If this not work try to log as root in a terminal a write: rpm -e name Change name for webwasher or something similar. You can find the exact name to write, using: rpm -qa | grep webwasher HTH -- Juan Carlos Conde e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Valladolid (Spain)Running Linux Mandrake 8.0 Linux Registered User: 219425 - http://counter.li.org/ __ mensaje enviado desde http://www.iespana.es emails (pop)-paginas web (espacio illimitado)-agenda-favoris (bookmarks)-foros

However: I can't get the logic of adding all the extra programs that came with it. E.G. I know somewhere in there is IBM's ViaVoice program. Also I was told... Websphere trial is there. Has anybody found alternative programs like MS FrontPage? Websphere is the only one I know of and it is $180 bucks in Oz! For the extras on the disks--supplemental applications, just drop in and add it to software manager. For Commercial CDs put in the disks, click on the CD icon and then read the doc files for each app. We made it to be easy, and many can be installed at install time (in expert mode, by clicking on the flat list when it shows you individual packages and scrolling down to the right package). Try screem, quanta and bluefish, all on your menu. Civileme I have donwloaded Mandrake 8.0 (2 CDs) from internet. I would like to know if PowerPack CDs are also aviable to download, and from where. -- Juan Carlos Conde e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Valladolid (Spain)Running Linux Mandrake 8.0 Linux Registered User: 219425 - http://counter.li.org/ __ mensaje enviado desde http://www.iespana.es emails (pop)-paginas web (espacio illimitado)-agenda-favoris (bookmarks)-foros
Re: [newbie] Batch File In Linux???
You can use vi or kedit to write the file. Here is an example of a batch file: #!/bin/sh /* This line must be included always */ cd /home/jcc/setiathome-3.03/* A go to a directory and run an file */ ./setiathome -nice 19 /* Current directory is not in PATH, you must */ /* specificate it with ./ before the filename */ /* The means it run in background */ ps -e | grep setiathome /* Another commands */ cat state.sah | grep prog= You must make it executable with: chmod +x filename I hope this help you. Open up a Konsole (preferably minimized) and change to the following folder: (/usr/local/bin/Half-Life/hlds_l/), then run the command: startup and keep the Konsole running 2. Open up another new Konsole (preferably minimized as well) and change to the following folder (/usr/local/bin/Half-Life/hlds_l/PB/) then run the command: pb also keep the Konsole running after running the program I'd like to have this so that I can double click on the batch file and have it run, or if I have to run it through Konsole, I'd like as an additional step to have the Konsole that I used to run the batch file to close after issuing the two commands if possible.
