Re: [newbie] Partitioning help
Kelly Cash wrote: Hi all- Is there a FAQ sheet for partitioning disks? I have a 20GB disk. 1/2 is WinBlows98, and the other is Linux. Apparently I had the Win partition too large, so that the boot record for Linux wouldn't reside in a lower cylinder than 1024. So, I shrunk my Microsnot partition, no problem. I've tried making a /boot partition and a / partition. Every time I try this (in disk druid), I get the error message "boot partition is too large." I've tried making a /boot partition at 256, 64, 32, 16, and even 1MB. All sizes yielded the message above. How much did you shrink your win partition, and check what cylinder it ends at. Linux boot partition needs to be completely below 1024th cylinder.
Re: [newbie] HELP PLEASE - PartitionMagic error
Sam Junge wrote: As I've mentioned before, I've been having problems with PartitionMagic. I installed PartitionMagic, then mandrake linux 7, then decided to delete the linux partition. No longer does my computer load lilo, or list linux as a partition, but PartitionMagic still loads as a dos program when the computer starts up and tells me "That linux partition could not be deleted. The operating system partition being deleted was not found." The only option it gives me is to click ok, which shuts down the computer and repeats the process.I tried going to my other computer and doing a sys a:, and also putting fdisk from my other computer onto the disk. I then put this disk in the computer that wouldn't load windows, and it gave me an a prompt. I tried typing fdisk /mbr, but it didn't make a difference for the next time i booted the computer. What can I do?Please give me a detailed enough anwser because I've tried to solve this problem numerous ways. Try booting from your floppy and checking the autoexec.bat file on the c: drive, see if there are modifications which start partitionmagic's batch file of partition changes.
[newbie] 6.1 install problem
I have had 6.1 installed(from download), and working, and now am trying to reinstall from powerpack CD's. my CD-Rom is bootable, but when the install gets to making a boot disk, it stops, without accessing the floppy drive(actually a: is ls-120 with floppy disk, is bootable, fully functional). If I skip making the floppy I get an error after choosing boot options, no matter how I try to set it up (MBR or first boot partition, linux or dos as default) Ok I rearranged partitions and got it to install before sending this message, without making a boot disk, but linux still doesn't seem to recognize the LS-120. I will try to get more info, if replies don't help, but I'm out of time right now.
Re: [newbie] 6.1 install problem
I have the messages back to september, and don't see any resolution to the problem, I don't seem to be able to mount the drive, the light doesn't even light. Alan Shoemaker wrote: Kevinthe Ls-120 problem was discussed at great length several months ago on either this list or the expert list. [newbie] changing boot method
I have linux installed with lilo in the mbr, and now have added bootmagic, how do I get linux to boot properly? I added the root partition to bootmagic, but it doesn't boot. I can boot linux using a floppy.

Is there a simple way to open the .iso file, without a cd-rom burner? This would be the simplest way for me to get 7.0
