Re: [newbie] HDD enclosure
Hi Miark I have used 3 different USB 2 based subsystems similar to this and they all worked first time on 9.1. I have an issue about running at USB 2 speed which is a controller issue I think, but apart from that no problem with either ext2 or vfat32 file systems. Two questions: * Is there any reason this wouldn't work in Linux? * If my setup only supports 1.1, is this thing still guaranteed to work (albeit slower)? Some recommendations would be welcomed as most/all of the scanners do not have linux compatible notices on the box (some day this may happen). Thanks Peter First, thanks to all of the respondants, and yes I will put this on the twiki if it is not already there. I looked at the ones suggested and then at a few of the USB sites. The end result was to go with an Epson 1260. This arrived new and shiny and worked right out of the box as expected from previous mails. The main reason for going for this one was 1) It was available new in the UK for approx £75 delivered by dabs.com (no personal interest, but have good experience with them) 2) It was recommended (as was the 1250) on the list 3) Epson have actually got their finger out to support under Linux and deserve the credit/benefit. There we go, a happy Linux user complete with scanner. All the best Peter __ Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] Import Outlook mail to Evolution
Hi All I have recently moved over to Evolution and MDK9.1 for all of my email stuff and am very happy with it, excellent program. I now want to move my old Outlook 2000 mail to it. I have tried importing to Eudora as a work around, but Eudora does not appear to import all of the Outlook mail for some reason. Anyone have success in doing this and like to explain what steps they took? [newbie] Lost toolbar quicklaunch buttons - 9.1
Hi All Having fun setting up 9.1 on my system, main idea is to replace my Win2K system eventually. Todays problem -- I had the standard toolbar which had the various quick launch buttons for Control Centre, help files, Konqueror, Kwrite etc and then tried to install some scanner stuff using Control Centre. After this all of my kmenu applications AND the quick launch buttons disapeared. I managed to get the kmenu applications back (eventually) after I found the command update-menus, but cannot see how to get the quick launch buttons back. Any help would be much appreciated. [newbie] IDE OPTI not compiled in on installation floppy boot
Hi All I am trying to install 9 onto a HP Ominbook 5700CT. The floppy boots up to the point where it tries to talk to the disk and I get the following error message OPTI621: Detected chipset but driver not compiled in! It the proceeds to try to talk to the disk and hangs with the disk light permanently lit when checking partition hda (the drive previously had an old version of Linux on it which worked fine) Is there an alternative boot floppy which may sort this out. I did try installing 9 onto a Toshiba laptop which worked fine and moving the disk across, this time the boot hang before much in the way of messages were seen, but similar scenario with the disk light on permanently. RE: [newbie]
Hi Ronnie The configure program cannot find a compiler in your PATH variable, so you need to add to your PATH where the compiler is. You may not have gcc installed, in which case you will have to install it.
