First, thanks to all of the respondants, and yes I will put this on the twiki if it is not already there. I looked at the ones suggested and then at a few of the USB sites. The end result was to go with an Epson 1260. This arrived new and shiny and worked right out of the box as expected from previous mails. The main reason for going for this one was 1) It was available new in the UK for approx £75 delivered by dabs.com (no personal interest, but have good experience with them) 2) It was recommended (as was the 1250) on the list 3) Epson have actually got their finger out to support under Linux and deserve the credit/benefit. There we go, a happy Linux user complete with scanner.
