Hmm. Ya know, I never even noticed the trash bin in Evolution.

Re: [newbie] Help with Evolution

2002-06-12 Thread Vincent Colombo

I'm assuming Evolution is looking at the permissions on the signature
file itself (or the directory it's in?). I don't think it's Evolution
itself that is telling you you don't have permissions. Check the file
permissions. Perhaps you moved or created the file as root?

As far as putting a line through deleted messages... This is a simple
security feature to allow you to recover messages you didn't mean to
delete. It puts a line through until you expunge the folder (CTRL-E).
That way, if you realize you didn't want to trash a message, you just
undelete it. If you don't like this behavior you could always just
create a folder called Trash and move messages you want to get rid of
there. You'll still have to go to that folder and do a select all then
delete them but at least they'll be out of the main folders. Also, if
you go to Tools -> Mail Settings -> Other (tab) you'll see a check box
for Empty Trash Folders on Exit. If you choose this messages with a line
through them will be deleted automatically at exit.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, you can just drag the icon from the menu to the desktop.

Re: [newbie] Intro and E-Mail client??

2002-06-11 Thread Vincent Colombo

Hey all,

I just installed Ximian Gnome last night and noticed that the installer
now has an option to install only Evolution. Therefore, if you're
interested in using Evolution and want the most recent version without
having to install all of Ximian Gnome and without waiting for Mandrake
to release an updated RPM, just do it this way.

I see people have commented that Evolution has some bugs. From my
experience 1.05 seems to fix everything I had noticed in previous
versions. One hitch though, you're best off deleting all your Evolution
preferences before starting with the new version. The reason I say this
is because the problem with Evolution not trashing deleted messages on
exit remains in 1.05 unless you start clean. Then it's gone. I don't
know why. I'd like to figure out if there's a single file you can delete
to fix this. Hey, if anyone knows fill me in. ;)

Re: [newbie] sound record and playback

2002-06-11 Thread Vincent Colombo

Have you tried Sound Recorder? It's in the Multimedia -> Sound menu
(obviously). The actual name of the program that it launches is grecord,
so if you don't have it there already just do a urpmi grecord and you
should be all set.

By the way, I've never used this application. I imagine it'll do what
you need though.

You can also check out Bochs (pronounced box). I've never used it so I'm
not sure how well it works. It's free.

Re: [newbie] Divx movies -- yes or no?!

2002-05-31 Thread Vincent Colombo

DivX is not the same as the now defunct Circuit City DVD competitor
wannabe Divx. DivX (also called DivX:), I believe it is) is a form of
video compression. So no, you can not play your Circuit City Divx disc
on Linux (or anywhere else for that matter). At least you have a nice
Abyss coaster. ;)

In the menu, go to

Networking -> Remote Access -> Virtual Network Connection

Here you'll be able to control someone's system or allow someone to
control yours.
