[newbie] Need help

2000-04-22 Thread William Neuman

Hi all,

I need some help with CommuniGate Pro. I want to evaluate it but I have some
questions. Can anyone send me to a news group or list for help? I checked
Stalker.com and didn't see anything that could help.

I have it configured to poll a pop3 server but I'm not sure of how a client
on my LAN can go into his mailbox and get his mail...

[newbie] mail questions

2000-04-19 Thread William Neuman

I need a program to connect to 4 different pop accounts and hold them on my
linux machine. I want my family (home LAN,5 computers) to be able to use
their various email clients to connect to the linux machine to get their
mail. All PC's are using WIN98 except for one using WIN NT WS 6.0. Running
Mandrake 7.0 connected to internet through a cable modem.

What do you suggest? How is this setup? I remember something about this
being a multiple step process. Something like one program fetching mail from
pop server, then another program taking that mail and putting it into
mailboxes. Finally the email clint to pickup the mail from the mailbox

Thanks,

Bill

[newbie] Soundcard and CDROM problems

2000-04-06 Thread William Neuman

Hello,

Has anyone successfully gotten their Creative Labs Soundblaster 128 PCI
soundcard working? I'm having problems getting the CDROM to produce sound.
All system sounds work fine. In the mixer the CD is not set for mute. I've
used both Lothar and sndconfig to configure the card. It comes up as an
Ensoniq 1370 PCI card. In Lothar there is not a listing for Soundblaster
128. Any ideas? And yes the the CDROM and soundcard work as I'm running a
dual boot system and they work in WIN98.

[newbie] don't want to start in KDE

2000-04-02 Thread William Neuman

Hello,

I just installed Linux Mandrake 7.0. I have it boot to the KDE desktop. I
don't want it too. How do I change this? There is a config problem and my
screen is black. Monitor light stays amber and never goes to green. I want
to boot to console. Any help?

[newbie] whats going on?

2000-04-02 Thread William Neuman

Hello again,

Installed Mandrake 7.0(AIR). Installation went well. Except for a stupid
mistake by me. When it got to the video card/monitor/resoulution questions I
must of fell asleep. When it tested the video resoulution the screen came up
blank and monitor light was amber(like sleep mode). Like an idiot when the
question came up, do you want to boot to KDE? I said yes. So first boot goes
into KDE and screen sits there blank. With help from 2 on this list (linux 3
at LILO) I got to console mode. Tried xf86config and still same thing. I'm
installing linux on this spare PC I have. Here's the spec's:

AMD-233mhz
Matrox Millenium II 8 meg video
15 gig harddrive
64 meg Ram
floppy
CDROM
Creative Labs 128 PCI soundcard

Any idea's??

[newbie] .iso file?

1999-10-17 Thread William Neuman

Hello,

I have ftp'd the file mandrake61-1.iso file. I burned this file using Nero
Burning Rom using the ISO section. I now have a CDrom with one file on it;
mandrake61-1.iso. My question is now what do I do? How is this file read?
When the file was burned to the CD I fiqured it would of been opened up to
many files. Do I have a coaster here?
Thanks,

Bill
