[newbie] updating Gaim on MDK9.2

2004-01-12 Thread aidanh
Hi guys,
Has anybody out there updated to the latest version of gaim? I have
downloaded the lates RPM to suit MDK9.2 but I get an error when I try to
run it.

Installation failed:
file /usr/lib/libgaim-remote.so.0.0.0 from install of gaim-0.75-0mdk9.2
conflicts with file from package libgaim-remote0-0.68-1mdk

I have tried removing the old copy of gaim using rpmdrake and have also
deleted all files starting with libgaim-remote from /usr/lib/. Yet I
still get the error - any thoughts???

I need to have something that will talk with MSN as all but two of my
friends are from the great unwashed (Microsoft Users), I've tried Amsn
and kopete works fine, but gaim looks to have the nicest user interface.

Thanks - Aidan

[newbie] enabling ide-scsi emulation

2004-01-10 Thread aidanh
I'm getting the following error message with K3B in MDK 9.2:

No support for ATAPI with cdrdao
You will not be able to use all your reading devices as copy sources
since there is at least one not configured to use SCSI emulation and
your system does not support ATAPI with cdrdao.
Solution: The best and recommended solution is to enable ide-scsi (SCSI
emulation) for all writer devices. This way you won't have any problems.

I did have ide-scsi emulation (and K3B) working before I had to
re-install everything and for the life of me can't remember how I did
it. I spent 3 hours last night searching for a simple how-to but could
not find one.

Can anyone provide me with the steps to enable this??

Thanks, Aidan

Re: [newbie] Modem Dialer for Mandrake 9.2

2003-11-06 Thread aidanh
WellI am finally on the net again with 9.2 Thanks to all those that
offered help. For those that are interested, this is how I did it.

After (another) clean install, I ran drakConnect to set up the
connection and restarted before attempting to connect.

after the restart, KPPP had not appeared there as it had for one other
user, so I installed it from the 9.2 disks. Then I restarted again.

This time KPPP had been installed correctly and it had not
simultaneously removed most of my other apps like it did last time.

Now I attempted to connect using KPPP failed again, the PPP daemon
died unexpectedly. When I viewed the error log it told me that the ISP
had spat out the username/password I knew I had them entered correctly
sa I tried changing a setting (the protocol?) in KPPP from PAP to
PAP/CHAP and now all is working fine. - this might be worth noting for
others trying to use ancient dial up accounts.

I don't know if all the restarts were necessary, but I'm still in the
windows mentality of if in doubt - restart when you make any changes
to program installations.

As for KPPP installing this time but not others, it seems that the order
I did things in made the difference this time. Last time I had not
configured my connection in drakConnect before attempting to install it
and it really screwed my computer up. I wouldn't have thought this
should have made any difference though.

Any thoughts??? perhaps this would be a handy addition to the Twiki -
but I'm still not certain WHY this worked this time so I don't want to
go adding notes that are full of bulls#%t
