The interview is great. I've just read it.

Margot, you're right. The plural of 'mouse' (i.e., the object you were
 referring to) is 'mouses'.

In my part of the world we refer to more than 1 pointing device as rodents :)

Although I'm not a native speaker, I've read lots of texts on Linguistics.
I recommend the book The Language Instinct by Steven Pinker. It's a
wonderful read and not so full of difficult terminologies.

Perhaps thats just what we should do here too.

I repeat - with one exception, around 3 years ago (when I was defeated

problems whatsoever. Mandrake has found them in every version from
8.0. IIRC HP show clearly on their website which models are

Anne,

I have to second what you say. I just bought and installed a HP Deskjet 3325
on my Debian Woody system.

No drivers for it in the Woody debs so I just downloaded the open source
drivers tarball from sourceforge, compiled and installed the driver.

Then installed the printer using cups without any problem at all.

This printer cost me all of $AUD 49-00 which is around $USD 30-00 this week.

HP IMO support OSS so I believe we OSS users s/be supporting them.

A further advantage for HP, along with Lexmark, is that they use oil based
inks which makes for better smear resistance off the printer.

My 2 bits.

I have had php and v2 apache with no problems other than normal
configuration problems (what doc root, permissions etc)
9.1 comes with both versions, they can be installed side by side, and
you can start which ever one you like.

Thanks confident to install it now.

ya, that's what I got too with my old Trio64V2. I picked up an old PCI

It seems to work OK if i use 640*480*8, which is not using the card accell
right? Anyways, i was messing around and kinda fudged things up, and now
it doesn't work at all (not even term). I'll take a look into the Beta,
 where can i get it?

card at the junk shop, can't remember the name now. That might be a lot
easier than upgrading to the newest XFree. I got some info on their list
that the next version is going to have more support for S3 cards. *Or*
you could try installing the new MDK 9.2 beta, I think it has a more
recent version of XFree...Tom would know more about that than me, but
check it out on the MDK site.

I just joined the list am late in this thread so I may be off beam but I
think there is a problem for S3 Trio with some of the XFree versions.
I believe v4.0 and 4.2 are ok, but 4.1 and 4.3 are broken.

There are binary drivers available on the S3 site - google get it.

[newbie] kppp

2001-03-20 Thread Bob Parker

LM 7.2 using KDE desktop - default install.
When I activate the interent icon i get the following error
in KPPP - the KDE Crash Handler
Short Description
The application KPPP (kppp) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
etc
This shortcut has the following properties
Access Permissions
Class Read Write Exec Special
User xx x
Groupx
Others x

Ownership
User: bob
Group: bob

Execute
Program Name
/usr/bin/kppp
everything else empty/unchecked

Application
Name:Internet Connection
Comment: Internet Connection

File types:
application/x-rpm

I don't know what that last line is about but removing/reinstating it makes
no difference to anything, nor does changing the permissions above.
Help appreciated.
ps I am working around by using DrakConf and connecting as root.

hate to replace it just to log on to the net through Linux.
Please advise me directly if you are running KDE, if so I will give you the

I doubt that you will need to buy another modem, but I did need to buy a new

If you are setting up kppp (or is it Kppp?) you will need to comple the

the DNS's are assigned dynamically anyway.
I just used 123.456.789 and 123.456.790 and it all workde from there.

I'll second that. I'm quite happy with KMail.
But your original query was about importing the collection you had in Outlook.
I don't know of any program that will do that but i'm very new too.
What you could do in Outlook is Edit - Select All, Edit Copy then paste the
result into Notepad. Then in Linux you can view your Notepad texts using your
choice of text editor via /mnt/windows/whatever folder you used for your texts
