[newbie] pppd and share internet problem
Hello all I take to and fro from work and home a desktop with mandrake 7.2 and I toggle between a pppd dialup and internet sharing when I am at home. But when I go back to work needing the pppd to work properly, I find that the pppd dials out and connects properly but nothing more I cant get any irc server to connect web page ftp ect... A solution would be appreciated and being that I am a newbie a methodical step by step what to do would be extremely appreciated.
[newbie] pleased with Mandrake 7.2
Hi all I started with mandrake 7.1 and said to myself "Wow Linux has come a long way since my first futile attempts of working with Linux back in 96 The next week 7.2 was released, chomping at the bit i waited a whole week to download the latest... Well it was well worth it. Previous attempts at configuring PPD had me stymied but i put Mandrake to the task. bam it worked aok. Then networking. Bamn so far so good. All in all a hell of a great package for newbies like me to seriously get into Linux. Minor problems like figureing out why I can't get netscape to properly send out email to my isp im pondering... Minor figureing out how to setup telnet turned into how to setup SSH. so today I go to the nearest barnes and nobles and guy some doc books that will assist me in setup . I have heard from the alpha Linux geeks that to not take Mandrake seriously... Well I think im gonna have to debunk that Myth. Getting people to try other operating systems like Windows will take distributions Like Mandrake provides. If it can within reasonable amount of time do the same thing as per windows alot more windows users will be able to try and determine if Linux is for them . Keep up the good work those who work on Mandrake to make it better...

Re: [newbie] Enable/Disable Telnet.
Hi you can enable disable allmost all services in linuxconf also you can tell if the service should start at bootup its easy and usefull linuxconf network severtasks intenet sevices and then linuxconf control controlpanel control service activity telnet is controlled by inetd (7.1) and xinetd (7.2) so you need to have that enabled too good luck btw. ssh is nicer than telnet try it! got any pointers to setup ssh ? I too have had problems with telnet to start out with . but least now i can get online first time for that ;*)
