Hello, did anyone succeed to make sound working with the onboard sound on a ASUS Motherboard P4P800. There is a driver on the ASUS CD and on their web site but this driver doesn't seem to work. [newbie] Re: 3Com Gigabit Ethernet 3C940 supported? (fwd)
-Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Yvan Sent: Sunday, February 15, 2004 8:45 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [newbie] 3Com Gigabit Ethernet 3C940 supported? Okay, looking at the Mandrake Database of supported hardware I know it's not supported. It's even not mentioned there. I have a ASUS P4P800 Motherboard with a built-in Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Model and Chipset 3Com 3c940. Autodetection doesn't work and even selecting it manually doesn't work, because it's not in the list and all other available 3Com models won't work. Does anyone by any chance know how to let this Ethernet Adapter work under Mandrake? (I have 9.0 installed, but in the Mandrake Database 3C940 is not even mentioned for Mandrake 9.2, so upgrading wouldn't help I'm afraid. I don't need 1GB speed by the way (10 Mbps is enough my cablemodem provider offers me a download rate of 2 Mbps). I use it with 9.2 and it works perfectly. Also, some other people suggested using the 3c2000 drivers. While they work, when I last used them with Mandrake 9.1, they didn't work very well. Certain sites couldn't be resolved (google!) and there were some other issues that were more than annoying. Don't know if those issues have been fixed since then though. So if you want to upgrade, 9.2 works fine, just choose the syskonnect/sk98lin drivers. Or you can patch/recompile your kernel with the proper patch from syskonnect.com. Josh Hi Josh, I tried the 3c2000 driver with the same results as you. Some site cannot be viewed with any browser. Name lookup works, pinging the no working sites is okay. Other sites works perfectly. I also looked which drivers my Mandrake 9.0 offers me and the sk98lin is in the list. I choosed sk98lin but I got the answer that it could not be loaded and if I want to specify some parameters. I tried that like 10Mbit, half duplex but it didn't help. Did you have to specify parameters when choosing sk98lin? And if yes which one? [newbie] Mandrake Update not possible
After upgrading to Mandrake 9.1 I chosed 'Update Software' and got a list of software that I could update over the network. I selected a few ones but during the update I got messages that some libraries are needed and can't be found (it's a large list). I assumed that all the stuff needed for update should be on the server. I tried it again a few weeks later and than I got the message that the server has no files at all for Mandrake 9.1. When I want to go back to the DHCP setting I enter dhcpcd -n and everything works fine. However (why always a however?), I have noticed that, according to ps -ax, instead of one dhcpcd process I have two processes in memory: the original one and the one with the command line dhcpcd -n. Is this normal? Or is there something I am doing wrong or missing? I don't use dhcp here, but coming from a daemon angle, my guess is that you r first instance of dhcpd is not terminating when you try to kill it (-k ?) a nd issuing a dhcpd -n command merely starts another instance. If dhcpd starts when you start the machine, you might be able to do use /etc/init.d/dhcpd stop and /etc/init.d/dhcpd start, or even service dhcpd stop|start. Just a guess. [newbie] Sound card Base PCI A3D
I'm not able to get my sound card (Base PCI A3D) to work. I checked all the sound HowTo in /usr/doc/kernel-doc-2.2.14/sound/ but my sound card is not listed. I used lothar and sndconfig but with strange results. sndconfig tell me it found a sound card Aureal Semiconductor|Vortex 1 and that it isn't supported. - Why does sndconfig not find Base PCI A3D? - And what can I do to get my sound card working? -- GMX - Die Kommunikationsplattform im Internet. http://www.gmx.net Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] Netatalk - compiling
Did anybody of you install netatalk on your Mandrake Distro? I downloaded the source code from www.anders.com/projects/netatalk, followed the instructions and after the first make command I got the following errors: /usr/lib/libwrap.a(hosts_access.o): In function `host_match': hosts_access.o(.text+0x209): undefined reference to `yp_get_default_domain' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[4]: *** [afpd] Error 1 make[3]: *** [all] Error 2 make[2]: *** [afpd] Error 2 make[1]: *** [../../etc] Error 2 make: *** [all] Error 2 If anybody has an idea or experience installing netatalk please contact me, or answer here of course. [newbie] suck (for INN nothing else)
Hello, I configured INN and it works. I now need a program to download the news from my provider to my newsserver. Newsflash doesn't work because my provider doesn't supprt the 'newsnews' command, the other alternative is suck (as far as I know). What concerns me a bit is that on the Mandrake CD there is no RPM for suck. Why, is there a better alternative to download news? [newbie] sendmail
Hello I installed sendmail on my Mandrake distro and wanted to test it with 'telnet localhost 25' but got the message: Trying 127.0.0.1... telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Verbindungsaufbau abgelehnt Okay, no problem, I first have to start it of course. So let's go in linuxconf under 'system' 'control-panel' 'services' and start sendmail. But, o shit, there is no sendmail listed ? Help, any idea how to start sendmail and let in appear in the control-panel? [newbie] How do I stop NFS
Hello, my system is running with a IP CHAINS Firewall. I have the follwoing problem on text consoles (not under X). My screen is filled with the following messages: RPC: sendmsg returned error 1 nfs: server pid408@penelope1:/net not responding, still trying I assume this has to do with my Firewall, blocking some NFS requests. BUT, I don't want NFS to run at all. I disabled nfs and related services through linuxconf. To be more precise I disabled the following services: autofs lpd netfs nfs nfslock postfix smb But I still get this messages: Here is my fstab file: /dev/hda6 /mnt/DOS_hda6 vfat user, exec, conv=auto 0 0 /dev/hdc5 / ext2 defaults 1 1 /dev/hdc6 swap swap defaults 0 0 /mnt/floppy /mnt/floppy supermount fs=vfat,dev=/dev/fd0 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0 /mnt/cdrom /mnt/cdrom supermount fs=iso9660,dev=/dev/cdrom 0 0 I just don't know what to do more to kill this nfs stuff. Re: [newbie] Sharp electronic organizer
Sharp will bring a new Zaurus modell out this fall (in the US) and next spring in europe) This modell will have linux installed from scratch, a Java engine and a AmigaDE virtual sandbox. Dear All, I want to purchase a Sharp Electronic Organizer/PDA. It can share information between a PC and the organizer. Is there a way to do this using Linux? Thanks for any suggestions.
