[newbie] Anyone able to play DVD movies?
Yesss, with xine and videolan also, I had not problems with 8.0 and is runing better with 8.1. At the moment I am using the 0.9.2 of xine; sooner or later I will try with new releases. Yesterday I wathced a complete movie in dvd (a encrypted movie). Just download the appropiates rpm files and read carefully the xine page instructions. Of course you could need some libs instaled in your system!, if you get dependencies messages try to install those libs. [newbie] Anyone able to play DVD movies?
Has anyone successfully gotten dvd movies to play on Mandrake 8.1? What software works and what doesn't? I've gotten a few to try to play but all of the ones I own are encrypted so I end up seeing a bunch of garbage. I tried compiling the latest version of Xine but couldn't it get it to work. It's in two pieces and the first one works but the second part never can find the first part. Mandrake does a great job with my sound files. Now if I can just get my movies to work, I'll be able to dump WInblows for good! -- Gary Traffanstedt Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

Re: [newbie] Anyone able to play DVD movies?
After quite a bit of fiddling around, I have very successfully gotten mplayer to work like a charm :-) There are others too, but this one works the smoothest here. The others I have tried are Xine (Works, but hung quite often) and Ogle (also good... no real problems here, except that the screen jerks now and then a bit). There must be something more because it didn't work for me. I put in Gladiator, and although I did see the title screen (where you select Play, Audio set-up, Scene selection, etc.), I couldn't get any further. Course it doesn't help that the interface is as obtuse and difficult to see as you can get. Maybe I'm just using it wrong.
