Hi there, A Fujistu Siemens laptop (lifebook B series) only installed with MDK 8 can not boot up anymore. It's still possible to go to CMOS setup but it reports that it can not detect the hard disk. Meanwhile, a kind of click sound can be heard regularly. Does anyone have experience about this? Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. RE: [newbie] Fw: help please, hard disk lost!
Sounds like hardware failure. Best way is to backup to another drive if you have one. Simple procedure and don't laugh. Take out disk and put in plastic bag and seal. Put in freezer for several hours (at least 2) then put back in system and backup. the sound you hear is the sound of a bad drive that is bouncing the reader arm back and forth. I have had several of these. qhwang wrote: Is my first post of this message lost? Re: [newbie] Fw: help please, hard disk lost!
As others have already stated, looks like an hw failure. Depending on the severity of the problem, there are some things you could try to recover data on the disk - provided you can boot from CDROM, otherwise I'm out of ideas. Not an easy job. Let us know if you want to try. raffaele [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Is my first post of this message lost? QingHua Sounds like the Harddrive has failed, I had a maxtor fail with similar symptoms just a couple of months ago. Sent it back under warranty. You can check the manufacturers website for warrantee issues. HTH -- Dennis M. linux user #180842 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

Re: [newbie] Fw: help please, hard disk lost!
Unfortunately, there is no CDROM. This is a special configured laptop having touch screen. It seems we have to sent it back to the tailer. Bests, QingHua Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

Not 100% as I can't remember my source but the cold does something to the bearings and you can get a couple of extra hours out of them. You have to seal in a plastic bag to stop condensation. I have heard of one or two people getting months of extra life after doing this but it is very rare. -Original Message- From: Aron Smith [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, October 02, 2003 4:29 PM To: newbie Subject: Re: [newbie] Fw: help please, hard disk lost!
