Re: [newbie] How big of a truck is Linux?
The beauty of Linux is that it can be almost any size truck you want (here I take "truck" to be a metaphor for things like "power" and "stability"). Since it is open source, you can mould it into anything you want. Linux can now be used in everything from PDAs (e.g. Plam, Psion), smart appliances and set-top boxes to enterprise-level servers. Micros~1 claim that their next version of Windows NT (codenamed 'Whistler') will be able to do the same. I'd like to see them try! RE: [newbie] How big of a truck is Linux?
In spite of its little quirks I love it, it doesn't freeze up the whole machine if I happen to run an app with a bug in it, there are more and more apps for it popping up every month, and its a heck of a lot more secure than my old windows box (now deceased), and when I had a room mate, we had separate desktops and did not have to bean-hatch at each other for moving each other's icons around on the same desktop. Would be more like a 4x4 with all the extras supplied, and a selectable front for each to choose his/her own. What I like much better is this one: Bulletproof OS: Win9x: wet t-shirt Win NT4: solid coat *nix: the real thing, the bullet proof vest. [newbie] How big of a truck is Linux?
If Win NT is like a 5 ton truck and it's Win 9x counterparts are more like 3/4 ton and 1/2 ton trucks, how big would you say Linux is?
