This is very important. It is *nice* that there is a workaround with
Konq or Opera, but it is not the answer. These institutions must be told
in very clear terms that it is a violation of a customer's right to
choose their own software when they require IE. There is no technical
reason to require it (well, shit, quite the opposite really), any of the
browsers available out there are capable of the necessary encryption
levels.

Use whatever works. It goes against the grain to pretend to use IE,
but if that's what it takes, use it.

After that, I agree that you should complain to the bank. Some do
listen, even if they don't always seem to. Recently I discovered a
serious flaw in the design of HSBC's on-line banking, when used with
Mozilla. I spoke to the Mozilla programmers, who helped me identify
the problem, then alerted the bank. They started with the stock 'We
don't support Linux, or Mozilla', but went on to say that they had
passed my comments to their programmers, for consideration in the
next update. I really expected that to be the end of the matter, but
last week, around a month after I told them about it, the fault had
disappeared. They obviously had tackled the problem.

Konqueror has some choices, but i haven't tried them. I think Mozilla
will do it, too.
Here's the trick for Mozilla:

-Type in about:config in the address bar.
-Right click on Preference Name and choose New = String
-Enter general.useragent.override as the name.
-Enter Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98) or Mozilla/4.0
(compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1) as the string.
-Restart Mozilla and you're done.

Hmm thw windows update doesn't get very far

BT websit enow works though. O2 I'm still having dificulties. I thik it
has something to do with security. Someone once told me that Mozilla
lacks the comercial stuff requred to do this (hince why it works in
Netscaoe)

That make any sence?

Hi,

Konqueror has the facilty to change its identification in the tools menu to
various different browser IE being one of them, I normally use Suse Linux and
couldn't get it to work with my bank account, however I installed Slackware
9.0 on my Laptop and with that I was able to log on to my bank account no
problem at all, this is the first time I have been able to with Linux, I have
since took off Slackware and installed Mandrake 9.1 but as yest haven't been
able to access the internet with my laptop as I haven't got a modem for it
yet so I can't tell you if Mandrake will work..
You find the browser in Tools Change Browser Identification then just
select a browser, try different ones and see if any are successful..
Hope some of this helps.
