If so then you may have to consider updating all of kde from thacs site or uninstalling that rpm and issuing: In this case these are the rpms as listed in an announcement from [EMAIL PROTECTED] ( MDKSA-2004:086 - Updated kdelibs and kdebase packages fix multiple vulnerabilities). The 100mdk.i586.rpm part indicates these rpms are for 10.0. The 9.2 rpm are labeled ...92mdk.i586.rpm John (nz) Thank you for putting me right on that. It was updating those very packages that got me in strife in the first place AND they came from thacs.rpms. Good to see thac is not at fault 'cause I like his site and prefer to use it. I have since also learnt that when updating or even installing kde one must do so from a text console with all WMs closed. NB. Had a bad hair day and have had to reinstall and have not yet done a reinstall of the updates. However, have been informed when this is done with 'kde' updates it should be done without a WM open. I think you may have solved my problems with KDE. That is, from text mode only and not having a WM up and running. Might have seen it before but it didn't sink in. Thanks again.
