Hi guys,
DOes anyone know if the new Mandrake 8.2 will have KDE3?...
Nope. I mean I dunno, an' I've been usin 8.2 most all this year ;)
Still don't have a clue ; My best guess, is kde2.2.2,.. 2.2.17, maybe
2.2.18 kernel, Mandrake's gcc 2.96 is still the compiler of choice,
XF-4.2. Lot'sa great updates to existin apps. Supermount is back, rock
steady. BUT it's no secret, visit a cooker mirror
http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/cookerdevel.php3 and watch for
yourself. Also, you can read up on the work in progress by lurkin on
the cooker list http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=mandrake-cooker
I took a real early look at KDE3 some weeks ago. Not impressed.
MOF, I hope the kiddie, windoze-like graphics an' eye candy DOESN'T
make it to release. Looks like Billy Goat's team and Paper Clip Bob
designed the Look'N Feel, menus and icons ...Oh well, YMMV ;
If this is what's needed to get Linux on the desktop .. oh
$#%%!!.Currently KDE3b2 is in cooker /contribs. Gives me the
impression 8.2 will sport 2.2.2, and store bought Mandrake CD's will
have KDE3 as an installable co-option. Just in case I'm savin my
latest kde2 src.rpm's ;
I tried
the beta (which was a bit too beta for me...'cos I'm not a
developer)of KDE3 and I found it very good anywayfaster and
lighter than even .great improvement from KDE2...and it looks
even nicerso i was really curious to know if it was going to be
part of the new distribution of my favourite Linux flavour. Cheers
everyone
bye
At least in the early stages, XF-4.2 has crud for fonts, even AA'd.
I was usin AA'd X-4.1/KDE2 Lucidux Sans system wide for some time.
Considered it better than importing M$ TT fonts (ie, drakfont, M$ Comic
Sans). Not so right now... and it's difficult goin back.
Since the testing route for 8.2 seems to be cooker only ... that is
to say the Christmas Cooker ISO release (which I'm usin, updated to
current), and beta1 is right now, It's, your guess. Civileme
probly knows.
My take is that the beta period is gonna be longer than in the past,
or you can expect 8.2 final within a bout'a month. Either way, expect
a much improved 8.1 ... well unless KDE3 is included as is ... yuk !
Not to bust bubbles, but if you (anybody on this list) had problems
installin 8.1 on your hardware ... 8.2 might convince you it's probly a
user or hardware problem. Conversely, expect the '8.2 sux, I'm goin
back to 8.1' posts to start shortly. (Sorry, couldn't resist ;)
