No problem. I was just checking. The email had a desparate ring to it.

Cheers!

  FYI:
The hostname is the name @Home provided you for your computer
  HOSTNAME is cr494246-A
Contact your cable service technical support rep. and they will provide
  you with the required addresses.

  Ask them for the following:

  IP address
  Subnet mask
  Default Gateway
  Domain name
  An example is: etob1.on.wave.home.com

  DNS Search order:
  An example is:
  24.2.9.33
  and
  24.2.9.35

By the way, you may want to consider using TCP/IP rather than DHCP.
  It worked for me.

  Good Luck!

modem which runs into a Linksys 4 port router. From there an RJ-45 runs to
a hub and then out of the hub and Rj-45 runs into my computer. I can't seem
to get access to the internet. Both my ISP and Router use DHCP and i'm
clueless as to what to put. When i go to configure i select eth0 for my NIC
and the right driver is also selected. What do i put for
PrimaryName.domain, IP (this is tricky cause my router uses DHCP) and
Netmask. Do i just leave them blank. Also, do i need to set a gateway and
if so, do i put down the IP address for my router or the gateway my router
uses from my ISP. Anyone else confused? Oh well ANY help at all would be
greatly appreciated. Maybe if i get this fixed i'll be able to get my sound
card workin too.

In Linux - you can leave the IP and netmask address blank; you must enter the
router's IP for the gateway.you can leave the primaryname.domain as
localhost.localdomain.
I also have a Linksys router attached to a cable modem and although my ISP uses
dhcp I was unable to get the router to work when using DHCP from ISP in the
router setup; I finally got it to work by letting the router assume that I had a
static IP and entering all the necessary items during the router setup( you can
get all this info, i.e., host name, domain name ip address, gateway, dns ip if
you're also using Windows by using 'winipcfg'for Win98 or 'ipconfig' for WinNT at
a DOS prompt )
Then i have my router as a DHCP server.
As I sit here thinking about it maybe it would work if , in the router setup you
indicated the ISP as DHCP and then assign each PC an IP address and netmask using
the router's IP as a gateway (of course). I've never tried it that way though.

 Good Luck

Use Linuxconf (from Drakconf) to set up your card.

Make sure that dhcp is turned ON for your eth0 device.

Linux will take care of everything for you upon the next reboot...

... assuming your cable modem is working and so is you NIC card.

If you use dhcp just leave things blank. Linux will automagically configure
itself.

Nope, not confused...

Eh, you might need to do this first...

Run sndconfig from a console, not from Xwindows.
