[newbie] Printers

2004-01-12 Thread Lee Wiggers
Hi all

I have a funny thing going on with my two lexmark laser printers in
the office.

My mdk9.2 box always alternates output to the two printers. This
has been fun for everyone looking for my print jobs up 'til now, but
one of the machines is down for maint today, turned off, and the
print jobs are still alternating between the two printers.

Printers are both shares on mdk9.2 boxes on the lan.

Here is the localhost 631 history for the last two jobs. -9 was
waiting for the printer before I cancelled it.

What do I need to do to get control of my output? I have to admit
it was cute until it ticked me off.

TIA

Lee

Try printing to xpp - it needs an extra mouseclick, but you will be
able to select which printer gets the file.

is this a result of pooling? Can you simply tell it NOT to pool the
printers? Seems to me I've read/heard something about that pooling will
send it to whichever is next. This reminds me of DNS servers. Which
alternate which one gets the request. I have no idea how to fix this, but
these are the thoughts that ran through my head when I heard this.

Re: [newbie] Printers-Epson

2001-12-16 Thread Ralph Slooten

Hiya, back to this topic. 1 Week ago I bought an Epson Stylus C80.
According to the www.linuxprinting.org this is a very good buy. So I have
it, but I cannot get it to work :-( Whether it's me or what I don't know. I
tried so many things, after inserting their driver for the C80, and
eventually someone said to me that I had to install the latest gimp-print.
I did this but the damage was already done. CUPS seems extremely messed up,
and when running printerdrake now it just hangs for about 5 minutes, and
finally when I get through to the configure printer screen, things do not
work.

Has anyone here else (running Mandrake) go a C80, and if so, how did you
get it to work? I know it does work, as users running Debian and Redhat
have told me, but maybe it's Mandrake (don't think so), or just my CUPS.

I tried uninstalling CUPS and deleting all config files created by it, but
this didn't help. It just hangs. I am thinking about reinstalling Mandrake,
but then at least I should know what to do beforehand.

I would appreciate any ideas / info you guys could offer :-)

Thanks in advance
Ralph

[newbie] Printers-Epson

2001-12-14 Thread Marcia

Dear All,

I still have not been able to get any printing going for my Epson Stylus
color in LM 8.1. I have decided to get a new printer, probably an Epson. I am
looking at so many different ones but if any one of you have a new Epson that
works great with LM 8.1 would you let me know? Is there a noticeable
difference between the Epson C80 and Epson Photo 780 for color quality
especially concerning photos? Is there a difference in text quality and
appearance between the two? I want a printer that I can do ink refills
myself, also.

Any suggestions including a different printer brand is welcome. I do not want
to go through what I have been going through again trying to get my printer
to work. Thanks for any help.

Sincerely,

Marcia

Marcia, I have the Epson Stylus Color 880 and am running Mandrake 8.1.
The printer is connected to a Windows box, and printing through CUPS,
works flawlessly. I also have Mandrake 7.2 installed on this computer
and the Epson works equally well also, again on a Windows box printing
through CUPS.

Re: [newbie] printers again

2001-02-25 Thread Michael O'Henly

You might get better responses if you said what your requirements are first.
Office? Colour? High volume? Cost?

For starters, any Postscript printer can be made to work perfectly with any
Linux flavour. More and more non-Postscript printers are being well supported
as well. In Linux-Mandrake that support is primarily through the use of CUPS.
Check this site for details:

http://www.mandrakeuser.org/hardware/hcups0.html

Actually, it's not responding today for some reason, but keep checking the
URL. Lots of good info here.

[newbie] Printers

2000-02-13 Thread Lance Borden

Someone was asking yesterday about printers for Linux - sorry, already deleted
that message.
Anyway, there was a discussion about that last week, and the people using Epson
printers were pretty happy with their products. Being in the market for a new
one myself, I took their advice and picked up an Epson Stylus Color 740 (they
were saying that the Photo700 was great). I am VERY PLEASED with it! It is much
better than my old printer was (hp600). The basic rule that the newbies
repeatedly mention is that the hp7xx printers are "winprinters" and will not
work. As I was looking at printers, the "Linux specialist" at the store said
practically all Epsons are supported. I had to download a driver for the 740,
and it is rated as working almost perfectly. There were several printers from
Epson (and other makers) listed as working perfectly. You might check this page

I have a HP695C printer connected to a win95 box that I access through my
network with Mandy6.1, and I have to say that it works perfectly.
No problems setting it up useing the Redhat printtool kindly supplied in the
mandrake distribution and color/graphics work fine.
It is true that "photoquality" is a bit rough, but then it is just as bad in
windoze but basicly it works just as well through Linux as it does in windoze.

Just giving my 3 cents worth :-)

Cheers:

Mike Perry.

Not sure about your 1000, but many canon BJ's do work w/Linux. You may have

I've got a BJC-4200.. Same thing, more or less..

Open a terminal, make yourself su ( root )

Choose the Canon BJC-600/4000 driver..

SHould work just fine..

I have a HP officejet 500 hooked to my computer. I can get it to print by
opening klpq and dragging the text icon of the text I want printed to the
open klpq program. This is rather cumbersome. The new mandrake 6.0 has a
printer icon on the desktop that I should be able to drag/drop the text icon
to. However, it doesn't work for me. I checked out the properties and see
the executable for this icon is lpr. The lpr command does not seem to work
on my computer. Is there a way to correct this or a way around this ?

Go to http://lcewww.et.tudelft.nl/~haver/linux/epson.html and set up your

great for mine.

A side note: I've noticed that this printer has a built in 'sleep' feature,
and if I reboot from NT to Mandrake I sometimes have to turn the printer off
and then back on to wake it up or else it won't print. Ever noticed that?
