Re: [newbie] Uninstall/Reinstall Mandrake7.0

Marcyou're welcome. Wow, that'll be the 3rd Linux
Mandrake distro (6.0 7.0 so far) that Maximum Linux has
included with their Magazine, and that'll only be the 4th
issue of Maximum Linux.

I have a subscription as well, and sadly for me, it'll be the
3rd version of Linux Mandrake that I already have a copy of
when I receive the one included in the magazine! C'est la
vie!

Re: [newbie] Uninstall/Reinstall Mandrake7.0

2000-06-07 Thread Alan Shoemaker

Marcyes, the one marked 'premier issue' had a Mandrake 6.0
CD bundled with it, I'll call it issue 1. The May/June issue
had 2 CD's bundled with it, Storm 2000 and Mandrake 7.0.
that'd be issue 2. Then there was the June/July issue which
had the utilities/demos/apps CD and would be issue 3. So the
next one would be issue 4 and have a Mandrake 7.1 CD included.

I believe you are saying the same thing differently. :-)

You know, I see a lot of this (and I am as guilty as the next newbie), you
feel as if you have a less than perfect install and you want all to be nice by
re-installing. I understand the feeling, but really, re-installing seems to be
the first choice instead of the last. If you have Linux up and running, you
have Linux up and running. Most anything can be fixed on a running system. A
little reading, a little editing, maybe uninstalling and re-installing a
package or two and you are back to normal and smarter for it all. I have been
in what seemed to hopeless, desperate situations before on my system, and have
bounced backand nothing compares to the feeling of accomplisment that comes
from doing it yourself. Your gonna get your hands dirty w/Linux, but your
pride will shine. Tom (do I sound like a dad or what!)

you can use the installation CD to format the partitions:
-expert mode
-any class but server
format the partitions, click done, then exit the install.
OR
if you have a DOS disk then type fdisk, delete the partitions (non dos)
and then exit fdisk.
The problem with using DOS is that although it sees the linux partitions
(non-dos)
it is rarely able to delete the partitions , that 's why I suggested the first
option.
OR
if you have Partition Magic then you can just delete and format the
partitions.
