Re: [newbie] Updating KDE 2 to KDE 2 Beta 2
In sort: KDE 2.1 Beta 2 is great! All I did was download the RPMs and install them all at once using gnorpm. After running "update-menus -v" and then rebooting, all was well. Konqueror and Kmail are a bit quicker and more responsive than my previous installation (CVS 20010115). Stability has also improved. I can't wait for the final version! P.S. Does anyone know if there's an official release date for GNOME 1.4? I hear it's due some time in February. -- Sridhar Dhanapalan. "There are two major products that come from Berkeley: LSD and UNIX. Re: [newbie] Updating KDE 2 to KDE 2 Beta 2
Has anyone had any problems with KMail? I use KMail to just read my email, not delete it from the POP server. However, after upgrading to Beta 2 from 2.0.1, I found that I was getting multiple copies of the same email everytime the email was checked. Is there a new setting or something that I missed? I looked at my account configuration a couple times, but couldn't see anything obvious. Has anyone else seen this problem? Other than that, I have been pretty happy with Beta 2. It definetly seems to be faster on my system than before. KDevelop works really well. The only other problem I have is that the "default" them in KDE 2 does not have any window frames around the windows, and I can't resize any windows. I switched to one of the other themes and I was able to see frames. How can I modify the default theme to get frames again? Re: [newbie] Updating KDE 2 to KDE 2 Beta 2
FWIW, I've been doing all of Chris upgrades, and thru the 20010109 update, they were problem free. With the 20010115, and 0118 updates I began to have some 'unsolvable' difficulties. When I first tried the latest 20010122 KDE2b2 updates the problems continued. So I took Chris' advice in his KDE2b2 README _literally_: Chris "How I installed on a clean 7.2 machine: 1. Installed 7.2 - Developer build/custom install" Now I infer from these statements that the best results are gonna be by doing a clean 7.2 install and then the KDE2b2 update following the rest of Chris' steps exactly. I can report that I did a wipe and clean 7.2 install, and followed ALL of Chris' instructions to the letter. As a result I have 7.2 with KDE2b2 that is very quick, responsive, and absolutely problem free. Kmail, Knode, et al, are flawless. No more menu problems, and apps start promptly, no more annoying pause. Thanks for the great update and instructions Chris! -- Tom Brinkman[EMAIL PROTECTED]Galveston Bay On Monday 29 January 2001 09:40 am, Wilson wrote: I use mine the same way to check my e-mail but leave them on the server and it seems to be working correct here with Beta 2. Re: [newbie] Updating KDE 2 to KDE 2 Beta 2
On Monday 29 January 2001 02:52 pm, you wrote: Has anyone had any problems with KMail? Thanks in advance, With Kmail you probably have not set it to delete mail from the server as you pick it up in Kmail, so each time you go back to the server for mail it remembers what you have and loads everything again. If you do this two or three times you start getting repeats of some messages two or three at a time. Go to "settings configuration " on the tool bar and look for the check box to delete from server. Make sure it is checked. It's in Network and then you click on modify to your incoming account. You will see the check box in the next screen to pop up. -- Dennis M. Registered Linux user #180842
Re: [newbie] Updating KDE 2 to KDE 2 Beta 2
I have been using Chris Molnar's KDE 2.1 CVS 20010115 RPMs since they were released, and so far I have had few real problems (well stability could be improved, but it's not too bad). Any reason to update to the 2.1 Beta 2? I have been reading a lot about people having problems instaling it and I was wondering if it is really worth it. -- Sridhar Dhanapalan. No. no. no. You need that rpm. Navigate to that ftp site. Download the libg++.so.2.7.2.rpm to the same folder where you saved the rest of them.
