If you log in as a user, you don't really have to worry about
a virus, because all you root files are not accessable under
a user login. If you surf the net as root (which is insane) you
might on the off chance come across something that might be dangerous.
Linux is not windblow$. Linux is much more secure because
you can see what you are installing and the file system is
setup in such a way that you would have to come across a very
malicious virus to do any damage. Not to mention you can kill
any app that is running. Plus most virus programs are written for Windoze.
Hmmm ...
You could probably search for something and actually find
some anti-viral software out there, but as yet, it's quite pointless.
good Luck.

You can get a Macafee anti virus program running only 200$, or you can get a
freeware from tucows, wich does just as much, if not better then macafee.

Don't surf the 'Net as Root and you have little to worry
about. :-) There is very little that can be done to your
Linux box unless you run a hostile app as root (or SU.)

Most Linux Anti-viral packages are for checking stuff so
that Windows clients which connect to the Linux box and
download files aren't infected by any of the files. :-)

Question: if I have my checking account information accessed by cbb
(Check Book Balancer http://cbb.sourceforge.net), all my data files
live in ~/.cbb, and are owned by mike.mike, permissions 100600.

If I received a virus, and I was running as "mike", and the virus was
running as "mike", would not the virus be able to delete or change the
cbb data files?

Right, but if you have a specific login you use for cbb and nothing else,
and follow strict rules on when to root and when not to. Your data is a
lot safer than it would be if you didn't.

Axalon Right, but if you have a specific login you use for cbb
Axalon and nothing else, and follow strict rules on when to root

An _excellent_ idea, which I have just implemented.
