 Try this:

It is an X feature (I think), it should work for all applications,
though sometimes it does not with StarOffice.

A secret of X revealed Raffaele. Thanks.

Do you know how to get Mozilla to fire instead of Konqueror when
double-clicking one of these?

Does this (not) work for anyone else?

 1) Open your mail client (hopefully KMail so we can test this
 properly).

 2) Copy the URL for the MS critic article to the clipboard.

 3) Now open Mozilla and try to paste this clipboard item into the
 Mozilla address window.

Doesn't work for me -- repeatedly. 'Paste' is not even available in
Mozilla in this case (grayed out). Have no idea here if the problem
is KMail or Mozilla, or something else.

Double clicking on the URL launches Konqueror of course, and I'd love
to change that to Mozilla if anyone will share the trick. Konqueror
promptly launched a pop up ad from that MSNBC site, something I
don't have to see in Windows since I have them all blocked. (Also,
Konqueror seems much less 'finished' than Mozilla, and seems to have
real trouble with some pages that Mozilla handles easily). I
understand Mozilla has a built in popup blocker, so I want to use it
 for that and other reasons.

Copy/Paste
---

Copy /paste using the 'Edit' menu does not necessarily work between
applications that use different toolkits ie kmail and mozilla.

But the method of copy/paste that works everywhere in Linux is
'highlight' with mouse/ click mouse wheel.
Once you get used to it Windows will seem clumsy by comparison.

Default Actions
---
To change default actions in KDE open the KDE
ControlCentreComponentsComponentsChooser

To change the default application to handle a file type
KDEControlCentreDileAssociations
search for the file type you want to change and put your favourite app at the
top of the list.

PoP ups

In Mozilla/Firebird/Opera there are options to suppress pop ups or open them
in background. Not sure about Konqueror.
In any case I get rid of pop ups by using 'privoxy' (It is in the 'contrib'
folder on any Mandrake mirror)
With privoxy installed point your browsers to port 8118
Privoxy will block pop ups and adverts configurable per site. It is *very*
good www.privoxy.org

It does work for me. However, I do find that sometimes I have to do
the click twice to make it take. Also, sometimes the clipboard seems
to lose focus. Have you opened the clipboard and made sure that the
url is ticked?

Not sure if you're only interested in one-off opening of e-mail URLs or
in a regular switch to a default browser.
If the latter, maybe there is an equivalent in KDE to the one in Gnome.
My e-mail client (Evolution) defaults to Mozilla, but you can vary this
by editing /home/user-name/.gnome/Gnome and changing the line containing
default-show= . to
default-show=your-preferred-browser-name %s.
'dillo' is very lightweight. I've found it particularly useful for quick
checking of e-mail URLs without all the overhead of the heavy duty
browsers on a dial-up line.

In Konqueror Settings, or you can access from the Configuration menu by
clicking the button on the bottom left of the taskbar (panel) under the
heading of ConfigurationKDEWeb BrowsingJava and JavaScript. The JavaScript
function on web popups policy can be set to Smart and you'll get the popups
you request by clicking a link, but automatic popups will usually be
disallowed by the browser. Or you can use the Deny setting to block all,
which is the default in Mozilla You must then specify sites allowed to
display through popups.

If you work from the desktop menu the configuration options are under the
JavaScript tab. I haven't even looked while the browser was open lately but
the display should be similar once you open the Settings and find the correct
section.
