That's what I'm confused about too. I just got the MDK newsletter this
AM, and it offers updated kernels without the offending modules. Do we
have a chicken before the egg thing here? Maybe the safest install at
this point would be a network-floppy install? Since the updated kernels
will be on the mirrors, but not on the ISO's?

I'm pretty sure I'm not affected anyway, since my LG is a burner, but
I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one.

I don't know the answer to that one Francisco. I don't know at what
point the flush cache command occurs. If it is at the end of the
install, then accepting an immediate update would fix it. All I know
is that things are definitely moving, and it will pay us to watch

Re: [newbie] downloadable 9.2 LG cdroms

2003-10-28 Thread Angus Auld
Greetings, I was just perusing the Mandrake Linux 9.2- LG CR-ROM drives Errata
found here: http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/lgerrata.php3
and I noticed what seems to be an error.

In the list of systems affected and their respective drives, the LG CRD-8482B
(which is the model I have), is noted as having this problem in the Dell
Precision 220; rom 1.05.
However, in the list of affected drives, the LG CRD-8482B isn't listed, but,
is instead listed in the UNaffected model list. Looks like maybe there needs
to be an Errata of the Errata? :-)

Regards to all.

No they are not.

If you look at the 9.2 tree on the mirrors you will see that
kernel-2.4.22-10mdk is in the 9.2 folder, if you do a network install you
will be using the bad kernel and will kill your LG CD drive.

The new kernel is in updates which is too late to help a new install.

So just wait a bit until the new iso's are prepared if you have an LG Cdrom

(I hope they call the new image 9.2.1 or something. It would be totally
confusing if they issued it with the same release number)

actually this is pretty bad for mandrake.
they're in a no win situation.

if they correct the iso for the dl edition and not for the boxed sets,
they're lose goodwill. heck, i think it causes much ill will.

if they correct the dl edition AND replace they box set, they incurred lotsa
costs.

and if they doesn't do either, reputation gets shot to bits.

kool. Can't wait for a non-bashable Mandrake again :) I was afraid that
since it was a final release they wouldn't put the changes in the isos
until a next release, or only as a patch. Hopefully they fix it without
stickign to version numbering/freezing stuff ... but really ... is this
problem Mandrake only? Any idea how come? Aren't all the linxes pretty
much using the same kernels?
