I confirm that the solution given here is the one that worked for me.
I tried to answer before by forwarding the original answer from John,
but the mailserver bounced the message back.

Anyway, this worked immediately for me.

Best regards
/Stefano

[newbie] no OpenOffice.org fonts on menus (at all)

2003-01-09 Thread ThinKer
Hello,

I recently decided to give openoffice.org a try for the first time to
create a .doc file for a proposal. When I clicked on the openoffice.org
writer link to application, the program appeared to start fine, but once
it opened up I noticed that there is no text on any of the menus in both
the opening dialog box and on the menus for the program.

1. How can I fix this, or should I go to the site and download and
install the program from scratch?

2. Is there another program for creating and manipulating M$ Office
related documents and presentations?

Thanks,

TP

This looks like the notorious OpenOffice fonts problem that came up on
this list earlier. Check the archives, and good luck!

Sorry, but that's the normal procedure for a question that has been
asked and answered (and I'm pretty sure it was answered, several times).

However, I'm sure that if someone was reading and knew the answer
offhand, they would have answered. Remember that your question is
competing with really important stuff like Deanna Troi's chest measurements.

As someone else pointed out, the number of OT posts at the moment is
atypical. This is because of the co-incidence of two important events:
1) a war; 2) a new Star Trek film. I'm actually surprised that the
former got more posts.

Thats it. I am on my way to the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] list so I can

Personally I'd suggest loading all your TTF Windows fonts via the KDE
Control Center - mine worked like a charm after I had a bit of a snag
with it...

KDE allows you to load all your TTF fonts - so if you're dual booting
and have access to your Windows partition, it's rather easy to do - if
not, well, you can download different TTF font packages and do basically
the same thing...

1. Get to a shell, become root, and type the following...

 /etc/openoffice/openoffice.conf

2. Edit the UI_FONT=AUTO replace AUTO with Arial or whatever other
font you have and want to use.

3. Save, close, and open OOOWriter. You should have menus.
