[newbie] Printing from Netscape ?
Hallo! I'm not able to print from netscape when i'm in a secure site. I get lpr: stdin is empty, so no job has been sent Netscape is using lpr to print and it works fine if it is not a secure page. my method of printing in netscape used to be: lpr -Pprintername altho i possibly stand corrected in this instance. ;) the command is lpd -- Mark ** Registered Linux user # 182496 ** On Wed, 19 Jul 2000, Bruce Endries wrote: I have installed a printer, using printtool, and run the test page (which prints fine). Bruce, Try using 'lpr -Pprinter name here' e.g. "lpr -Plp1" "Eric MC.D" wrote: Are you sure ? Mine is lpr, lpd doesn't work ! [newbie] Printing With Netscape (rerun)
I just wanted to let everyone know that I still cannot print with Netscape--or anything else for that matter. I was able to print a test page with print tool before, but not any longer. Queque says lp0 is printing, Netscape says lp0 no such device and when shutting down lpd fails to shut down all I can catch is something about lpd on parport 0. I uninstalled and reinstalled lpd no luck. My printer is lp0, CanonBJ4000. Resetting lpd is no help either. When trying to start/restart from the terminal I get a "Segmentation fault" message--any further insights on this frustrating problem? Thanks in advance. (By the way Toby, I sent that modem out on Saturday) God Bless' John Connell
Re: [newbie] Printing With Netscape (rerun)
I had this problem a while back, RH 5.2 or something. I have a Canon 4200. Here's what fixed mine. In KDE ( I'm assuming your running this) open a terminal and login as su ( root ). Run printtool Configure. Close. Reboot. Your symptoms are exactly like mine were, and running printtool under a level 3 loging ( command prompt ) never fixed it. Only running KDE and THEN running printtool fixed it. Alan GL. I just wanted to let everyone know that I still cannot print with Netscape--or anything else for that matter. Re: [newbie] Printing from Netscape
I renamed my printer to epson440, and now I have to use the command "lpr -P epson440" in any program to get the printer to work. It works for me in Netscape anyway. Re: [newbie] Printing from Netscape
First, check to see if the lpd daemon is running. You might want to go to the command line and as root type: lpc There you can restart the printing daemon bye issuing the command: #lpc restart lp0 ...or... #lpc start lp0 The command to print out of Netscape is lpr. To print out of Netscape on my box, I use: lpr -Php5l I named my queue hp5l because I have a Hewlett Packard 5L, but for you you would use: lpr -Plp0 Hope this helps. * Original message from: "John Connell" [EMAIL PROTECTED] I have tried "lpr"--didn't work! Re: [newbie] Printing from Netscape
When you type lpr you have to also specify a printer queue, so it would be something like: lpr -Plp0 You substitute lp0 with the name of your printer queue. * Original message from: John Connell [EMAIL PROTECTED] When I type "lpr" in the command line I get the message "lpr: lp unknown printer" JC

Wow you're right. Is this a possible problem with the package. I typed: lpc after that I typed status and when I did, I get the same seg fault. Does anyone know how to print from netscape? TIA Lyndon Lininger Sr.
Re: [newbie] printing from netscape
For me, once I set up my printer for Linux in general all I have to do is hit the print button and make sure that it's set to print to lpr and portrait and letter. However, I can't get Star Office to print . . . . On Wed, 21 Jul 1999, you wrote: Does anyone know how to print from netscape? TIA Lyndon Lininger Sr. -- Ty C. Mixon ICQ #: 26147713 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [newbie] printing from netscape
Hmm...do you have your printer set up in Linux? That's What about setting up the printer in Netscape IIRC (unfortunately, not running Linux here yet, and don't currently have access to a Linux box at this moment...) Netscape has it's own Printer config options, plus you have to configure your printer specifically in Xwindows (I think) as well as just generally defining it for Linux. Unfortunately, I haven't done more than glance at the printer configs as I don't have access to a printer at work where I run Linux.
