RE: [newbie] how to upgrade mandrake to 9.1 ?

2003-08-17 Thread walt

One way is to just download the mandrake
9.1 isos and burn them to disk, reboot and you have the option to
install or upgrade

service packs are a M$ conspiracy. you can download the whole distro and
install, I recommend taring up your /home partition and doing a complete
install, formating all the partitions. you can do an 'upgrade' but it
sometimes has some problems with libs etc.

No problem, I think I saw the other 2 first, and really (to _me_) html
mail is not all that bad, but I try to respect the others (who really
have the correct answers) too.

each cd is numbered, all three are a good idea to burn. an ISO is an
image and is not burned as a file but as an image.
first CD is
Mandrake91-cd1-inst.i586.iso
second is
Mandrake91-cd2-ext.i586.iso
third is
Mandrake91-cd3-i18n.i586.iso
an install can be made with just the first ISO, but is better to have
all three.

as always back up your data first.

as you may have figured, as long as you don't mess with the ntfs or fat
partitions, you M$ stuff should be fine.

sorry, those numbers i just posted were for the beta for version 9.2,

you also may want to wait a month (or so) and get 9.2 when it comes out,
or try the beta version, and give Mandrake's developers a taste of your
'newbyism (can I have the copyright to that word please) and help them
make the next version even more friendly, and compatible to -your-
