The latest version of pump is also supposed to support the -h parameter. As usual the man page has no concrete examples and I haven't been able to figure it out. I used the dhcpcd settings (mods) found here, http://members.home.net/jasonbrossa/Linux/, for a while but I have settled for the permanent settings available here: https://ms2.home.net/NetStatus/index.htm?viewonly=true. That is, you need to specify your computer name. daniel Rendus Maiman wrote: I had posted a message earlier, but I forgot to place a Subject. Only one person answered me, but it wasn't enough to get things going. Here's my problem... I am subscribed with Videotron (Montreal, Quebec). I installed Linux on its own HD, I swap this one and another with Win95. When doing this, I enter the Bios, change HD detection and set PnP OS to no (I installed Linux this way). During installation, I was prompted if I wanted to install networking. I answered YES, specified my NIC as an NE2000 compatible (it's an SMC 1660 ISA), specified 0x340 for the io and 9 for the IRQ. At boot, it finds eth0 information with this message... "NE*000 ethercard probe at 0x340: 00 e0 29 35 f6 a8 eth0: NE2000 found at 0x340, using IRQ 9" ...but I then get a ... "Determining IP information for eth0... Operation Failed" I've tried everything I could find to set up the network, but nothing does it. I've looked through http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/Cable-Modem.html for anything that may help me, but I am missing something. And I thought NT Networking was a pain... If anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it soo much. If I am missing some info that someone needs to decipher this, let me know and I'll post it. Re: [newbie] Cable Modem
I have had similar problems. For a whole day, every time I booted, I got the Eth0 [FAILED] message. However, the next day, no problems at all. I have no idea what is going on, other than something weird with the Cable Company Server (I did call them, and they said that they had not changed anything). Good luck. Murray [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello, I am unable to get my cable modem going in Mandrake. Every time it gets to the eth0 it fails. I have succesfuly installed the cable modem under RedHat 6 and had no trouble getting it going, tried the same configuration in Mandrake and it fails on the eth0 on start up. I re-installed RedHat, got it going then upgraded RH to Mandrake, didn`t work. Any suggestions? Sorry if I`m being vague but this is my first experiance with Linux! Re: [newbie] Cable modem setup
Thanks Axalon. It worked and now I'm a much happier camper. My final setup is the dhcp with the hard-coded ip address of the default gateway. Now I only have to figure out how to set my video to something different than 320x200 :-( Thanks again, Sean - Original Message - From: Axalon [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] See my other postings on dhcp/cable modems if you need to/have to use dhcp. This is a gateway problem, run winipcfg in winders and find the default gw and input it in linux(test manualy w/ "route add default gw x.x.x.x eth0", (any @home techs can stfu, or fix this shitty network you have us on) in general the @home techs are morons they pulled most of them over from the lines crews, the only ones worth squat are the ones that got shipped to @home for training (one from each sub contracter) If they actualy got dhcp setup i'll be amazed. If your paper work is like mine the gw is listed on it aside the other info as DG=x.x.x.x
