Re: [newbie] Installing 10.1 Official without ISO cds
KMail has a reply-to-list feature. Just hit the L key, or you can set up a toolbar icon. Useful for keeping my blood pressure under control.-- cmg I knew about the reply-to-list, but not the L key. Thanks for the tip.-- Actually, I didn't know about the L key thing myself until earlier today when I was answering your question and looked at the options in the Message toolbar heading; I've always installed the reply-to-list icon in the toolbar. -- cmg It's been awhile since i used Kmail, but i think you can program the whichever key you want to be list reply. I thin i had it set up so that the normal reply to key was actually the reply to list key. If there wasn't a list, it would default to the sender. eric -- Mandrake HowTo's More: http://twiki.mdklinuxfaq.org Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Thanks in advance, Paul The aboslute easiest way is to use the iso's. They are not available for download yet, but you can get them (4 CDs) here : http://linuxcentral.com/catalog/?prod_code=L000-296id=C1CQEBKnWD3C 6 But, here is what I did : 1. As root, edit the file /etc/mandrakelinux-release and change Community to Official. Save it. 2. Download kernel-2.6.8.1-12mdk form a mirror .I used : ftp://ftp.proxad.net/pub/Distributions_Linux/Mandrakelinux/official /10.1/i586/media/main/ 3. Install it alongside your old one. Re-boot into the new one. 4. As root : urpmi.removemedia -a 5. Go here : http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ 6. Define your sources for 10.1 Official, and proceed as instructed. 7. As root : urpmi.update -a urpmi --auto-select. 8. As root : rpm --rebuilddb update-menus -a -n udpdatedb That's all. When comparing my new rpms to the ones on the mirrors, it seems that I run 10.1. Official. I actually don't know if step 8 is required, but it won't harm. But YMMV. Kaj Haulrich. -- *sent from a 100% Microsoft-free workstation* * http://haulrich.net * *Running Linux (Mandrake 10.1) - kernel 2.6.8* Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? List resend You guys with gmail addresses are a pain in the neck ;-). I know you cannot change the reply-to setting, so I only blame you for using the system, not setting it up properly. This is the third time in the last twenty-four hours I have had to resend a reesponse to the list that I found in my sent after not seeing it show up on the list. In every case, the poster was sending from a gmail address. **Original Response Below** On Saturday 30 October 2004 09:15 am, Paul Smith wrote: Is it possible to install Mandrake 10.1 Official without the ISO cds? Or should I wait until the ISO cds are available for downloading? You can either download the entire distribution tree from an ftp mirror and install from hard disk, or you can install directly from the dist tree, which will only download the packages you are installing. To do that, there is a floppy image that will boot and start the installation process and you just point the installer to the location that contains the distribution tree. There are seperate floppy images for each kind of install you might want to do, hard disk, network, cd-rom (for machines that cannot boot from cd). There is also a small boot.iso which combines all of the features of the various floppy images. Just burn it and boot from it for any kind of install. -- /g Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com Join the Club : http://www.mandrakeclub.com
