RE: [newbie] Installing Zip drive on 8.0

2001-10-03 Thread FLYNN, Steve

Ahhh - sorry!

I'll write up a little mini-howto tonight when I get sat down with my Linux
box. Sorry for the delay in replying - I've been in Amsterdam for a few days
and only just got back to work.

All it involves is insmod'ing the ppa modules and mounting the drive. I
 did
it on my laptop, running Mandrake 6.5 about a week ago, without a
 problem.

Could you care to explain all that, as I've only been using Linux for

Thanks for your trouble! My problem is that I can mount the drive
manually, but not automatically. The system does not seem to recognise
sda4 unless I run ppa. Also the icon on the desktop does not save the
properties that I re-set each time. (Device seems to be set at /mnt/zip
which doesn't work - if I set the Device to be /dev/sda4 then the icon
works but it won't save the setting!)

Regards

Gordon

my floppy drive (permission stuff if I remember

All the necessary drivers should be installed when you
 set up Mandrake.

Can I do this through update ? The zip drive was connected through a
switch box which was set to printer when I installed, (my previous
windoze printer wouldn't piggyback off the zip drive). I don't really
want to reinstall, although it would not be too much of a hardship as I
only did it last night, and its much faster than 7.1!

Thanks

Gordon

What's wrong with following the ZIP FAQ?

it on my laptop, running Mandrake 6.5 about a week ago, without a problem.
