I couldn't get the latest version to compile either, so finally gave up. I
liked KWinTV as the UI was far superior to xawtv (and I've never managed to
get xawtv to work either). From all appearances, I'd say that developement
has ceased (or at least on hold for a very long time).

For now, I'm using Zapping, a Gnome app that's quite good and under active
developement. The UI has a few glitches, but give it time...

The compiler is very strict. gcc 2.95 would probably allow that with a
warning and produce buggy code.

Well, now is the time to look at the source or to find someone who knows how
to look at it. You have the module name and almost any text editor can
search for the guilty text.

Mark, do you know if it uses the brooktree 848 - 878 (and others, I think),
chipset? If so, it should work! ;-)

watch TV with that card on Linux? I just assumed that since it used MS
WebTV it wouldn't work...

Jeff, as I've heard repeated on here so many times, and I've found it to be
very true:

"the only stupid question is one that is left unasked"

Or something like that!

Anyways, yes, you do have to have a TV-Tuner card. I use the Hauppage WinTV
model 401. I picked it up from BestBuy for $83. (other cards/brands do work,
however, you might want to check out the support list for specific models.
Basically-stick with Brooktree chips/Hauppage, etc, and avoid ATI) With this
card, I get cable TV and FM stereo radio. Its kind of a geek thing, as any
TV
kills it in size, and the radio won't pick up nearly as many stations as a
home
stereo, but it is just that "cool" factor... ;-

See ya later!

Francisco, have you read the bttv mini-howto? That single document helped me
more with my setup than anything else. Are you NTSC or PAL (I'm assuming PAL
here). You have to set that in kwintv's options, as well as other things. By
all means though, *read* the bttv mini-howto! ;-)

Hi Francisco! What version are you using? I compiled v.80 here, and it did just
fine. There are older RPM versions available. You might want to try those. They
are not too much older. I think you can get as high as v.79 from the kwintv
support site. You might want to try that route.

Hope this helps. ;-)

Yes, it is stupid because how do you believe that I can watch tv using
cabletv?. I have an Avermedia Capture98TV that works fine with cabletv
and with windows 98.

This means that the program was compiled against different libraries
(version probably) than you have on your machine. Best way to avoid this
clunk is to get the sources and compile it yourself.
