NO no java. I will say that on Mandrake it flew for me but on Xandros I can't get a connection up?? But I would say give it a try. The other option is gtk-gnutella, but I also had problems with it. I took the easy way out an installed a Mandrake gnutella client (gtk-gnutella-0.91.1-1plf rpm). Just start it and it works right out Hmm. that's something to try. I just have Limewire and 'gnut' but downloaded the source for mutella last night. I've a plf mirror defined as one of my urpmi sources :). Out of curiosity sparked by this thread, I d/l'd the mutella src.rpm. It won't build on current cooker 9.1, 'can't find readline.h', tho readline is installed. I know I could probly hack it You'll need readline and readline-devel installed. Once those are in place, it's pretty smooth sailing. There is a gotcha in the rc3 source tarball: there's a readline4fix.c source file which needs a little modification because it's tied to readline 4.2 and Mandrake uses readline 4.3. Consequently, one gets unresolved link errors. The quick and dirty fix is to insert an #undef for HAVE_READLINE42 in that file, and recompile. I haven't done the acid test yet. their gnutella traffic throttled. I've gotten about half the files systems, but there are large (hours) gaps between gettin files d/l'd. I have about 4 or five files queued since late last night - I left the connection open all night - still nothing when I get up this morning. else, throttled down, 5K/s Gnutella traffic both in out, 5K/s upload, d/l wide open ... it's like gnutella's not even running. Hmm. That is very attractive. My u/l is 128K as well, and as of now there are only two outgoing connections (1k/s and 3k/s) but still it feels throttled. Nothing is gettting d/led, and urpmi is grabbing gtk-gnutella verrry slowly. artist was available on the binary newsgroups, I wouldn't even bother with gnutella. Oh yeah, I've perused those as well from tiem to time. With knode it is a bit awkward to piece together dozens (if not over a hundred) of separate files then decode, but at least you get to see the girly pics inline :). Hi, I just installed LimeWire, and found it to be really good. It downloads files quickly, and searches are neat. But, I was wondering if it was spyware. If it is, then I may try Mutella. Well I don't know if its spyware but I certainly found mutella to be much faster!!! It does have a gui but I never set it up. You could always try it and if you don't like it dump it. You need to also make sure that the path to j2re is in your ~/.bash_profile for it to work. My ~/.bash_profile has: PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:/usr/java/j2re1.4.1_01/bin You definitely need Sun's j2re for it to work, and it won't work if you have kaffe installed as well. Hi, Miark is right. I am just being a bit more elaborate. It could be an issue of the version of your java executable or it could be that your java is not in your PATH. In earlier Mandrake distros they had some kind of java installed (Kaffe) and if you don't deleted that then the line above would give you still the old java executable. Because when Bash searches for a program (i.e. java) it does so from left to right along your PATH and uses the first program that matches the given name. ( - That was my explanation anyway) If you use: PATH=/usr/java/j2re1.4.1_01/bin:$HOME/bin:$PATH With the old PATH at the end. Then you make sure that your new one is found before the old one. The other solution would be to make sure there is only one program called java in your PATH. You definitely need Sun's j2re for it to work, and it won't work if you have kaffe installed as well. You could work with Kaffe and have the rt.jar or classes.jar in your Java Classpath (=the PATH for java). Kaffe is fine - they just do not have the framework, it is only a runtime. It's been a while since I messed with installing Java2, but I think I liked using the MDK version because it automatically mades the .bashrc entries. I could be wrong, though--like I said, it's been a while. I just remember the generalities: * Must have j2re. * Must not have Kaffe. * The Java bin directory must be in your PATH.
