I had pretty much the same thing happen with my cable modem setup. The problem was caused by IRQ conflicts. Something odd with the Intel cards I used? It sounds weird, but try simply switching the slots for the ethernet cards. Put eth0 where eth1 is, and vice-versa. This worked for me. I have also tried listing the card in the networking section of linuxconf with the same information, also without success. Don't really know why Bryan snip Unfortunately, the 3C509b is an ISA card and the genius is a PCI. My MB has only 2 ISA slots, one used by the soundcard, and the other by the ethernet card so I can't switch. The setup works with (yuk) win2000 and win98, so I don't think IRQ conflicts are the problem. My next move will be to try modprobe 3c509 as suggested by another answer. I think there MAY be newer drivers for the 3Com, Or, you may need to boot to DOS and use the 3Com setup util to make sure Plug -n- Pray is turned off on that card. John
