No problem. There you have :
ftp://ftp.lokigames.com/pub/patches/quake3/linuxq3apoint-1.16n.x86.run

And not far from there, you also have the patches for the other loki games
(heretic, railroadtycoon II, myth2, ...)
You d/l the patch, run it (as root if you want to install the stuff in
/usr/local/games/quake3), then you replace the quake3/baseq3/pak0.pk3 by
the one that stands on your Quake CD. Note that if don't have enough place
or don't want to waste it, you can just make a symlink ;-) (but it takes
more time to load the game and the arena's, of course)
If your GL drivers are correctly installed, you just type :
cd /usr/local/games/quake3
./quake3
And then... YOU FRAG, YOU SHOOT, YOU KILL! :-)))

a .sh file is a shell-script. .gz.sh means: it's compressed (.gz) and it's
executable from the shell (.sh) --> a self-extracting archive I suppose. Anyway,
to run it, simply do this:

  sh filename.gz.sh

or make it executable (chmod +x filename.gz.sh) and then run it like this:
  ./filename.gz.sh

and it should start installing.

Hey thanks! I'm looking forward to getting my wife hooked on some Linux

Cool, thanks! One sidenote; what do you do with an .gz.sh file? I
haven't come across this file type before (I've used .tgz, .tar.gz,
etc.)

Thanks again! Mike

You can download it from
http://demo.quake3arena.com/QUAKE/linux/linuxq3ademo-1.11-6.x86.gz.sh

But there must be some mirrors near you to download it faster.

NB : This WON'T work if you have the full win CD and want to play in linux
with it. In order to do that, you have to download a patch (I don't
remember where it is, but you will no doubt find it at tucows or something
like that).

sorry, can not help you on this one, just wanted to butt in with my
Railroad Tycoon II
recommendation. Even my Quake playing son stopped playing Quake.
RT2 is absolutely addictive.

I paid $35 at Fry's, but I am sure you can find it cheaper to zero .

If you chose to install it, deselect "movies" option in install menu.
There were minor video issues on my old box:

PD440FX with 233PII, 128 MB RAM. Matrox Mystique (4MB)
Hitachi 803 (21" -53cm)

it corrected itself on the second run.

Newer boxes ran it without a hitch.

best, Y
