Re: [newbie] Re: Robotics
Hm...i can say i want to start into electronics/robotics. My techie friend said that i should buy an 8 bit controller that i can download a program to. Would anyone know of such of a processor? How about any mailing lists? Sites? Anything? You can mail me directly if you wish You'll need to try electronic magazines for that type of information/hardware. No doubt you could find an abundant amount of sites on the Internet through retailers and distributors. Have a look at Nuts And Volts Magazine they have at least one in depth article each month on robotics and adds from a lot of venders selling robotics stuff. Marc KM5KW Dude! Thank you for mentioning Nuts Volts! I've just checked out their site, and I think I'm hooked (also thanks to the owner of this thread, I've been thinking about this topic for some time.) What section is Nuts Volts in? I havn't seen it in any chapters stores in the areas. And it isn't my thread, it everyones. Jim. As far as I know you will not find it in the stores. You have to get a subscription or if you happen to have any friends involved in ham radio ask them if there is going to be a hamfest in your area soon. At most of the larger ham fests in the USA there seems to gennerally be a table set up with lots of free literature and free copys of Nuts And Volts. You may also be able to get a sample copy sent to you if you have a look around the Nuts And Volts web site. The PICs are just the processor itself, so you'll have to wrap the circuit around it, or get one of the breadboard kits, but those will be clunkier then making the circuit itself. Go to www.microchip.com , and maybe http://www.microchip.com/1010/pline/tools/tparty/index.htm for third party stuff. The cheapest route (other than programming inassembly) is PicBasic, but there are C compilers. anyway If it peaks your interest, i can give you a list of my favorite starting pieces. But i usu do it for work, so i have the luxury of designing a PCBA to plop it in. eric Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
