It has been almost 24 hours and I haven't seen this appear, while other
mail has been getting through fine, so here it is again:

I'm assuming you're talking about shoutcast (or similar mp3 based)
streams?

In XMMS:
Options-preferences then in the input plugins box select MPEG Layer
1/2/3 Player 1.2.8 [libmpg123.so] then click configure. In the box that
comes up select the streaming tab. At the bottom of the tab there is a
section titled SHOUT/Icecast. This is where you want to select the
Enable title streaming option.

The reason this is disabled by default is because of a bug where there
would be disruptions to the audio playback. As I remember it some sort
of popping/hissing? Anyway I think that bug was fixed a while back.
Works for me...

Let us know how you get on,

A.

Well, Totem just got on my last nerve.

It barfs eventually when playing a stream. May take as much as
a day, but sooner or later

Try the what a goom plugin

What a goom is much better than the Totem visual, but what I was
looking for is something to display the title and artist rather than
the stream. Totem does it on many streams but the other players
don't, at least with the default settings.

I tried to watch a DVD with Totem and I get this error message:
The movie '/dev/cdroms/cdrom0' could not be read.
I tried also with other DVDs and I get the same answer.
Music cds are playing but DVDs.

Make sure 'Drake recognizes the drive as a DVD player. Check in MCC under
Hardware.

I tried also to drag and drop, under root, files to a RW cd and it
doesn't work. I tried then by opening K3b software and there I can not
add directories to my rw-cd without reformating the cd.
DO I need a different software or is something wrong in the settings?

...don't know about that one, don't use RW's at all, since blank CD's are about
50 cents each (which now, thanks to GWB, is about 51 cents American ;-))
