Re: [newbie] aumix not working
Well! This is what I did -- not pretty! I reinstalled 9.1. I let the installer select the defaut driver cs46xx. After installation, I selectively installed alsa. Rebooted, cs46xx failed to load. Went to harddrake and selected driver cs4232. Rebooted, cs4243 loaded. Now there is a speaker on the bottom right panel, wasn't there before. Opened up kscd, put in an audio cd, and it worked! Who knows? Some times I feel that linux is a house of cards. Thanks for everybody's help! mike On Wednesday 30 July 2003 05:59 pm, Anne Wilson wrote: > I tend to agree, but since we often have to work with what we've > got > > Meanwhile, I would run HardDrake from the mcc. I tend to agree, but since we often have to work with what we've got Meanwhile, I would run HardDrake from the mcc. Select the card, and see what it says it is. I can't remember the names on the two buttons on the right, but try them. One of them will show suggested alternative drivers. It sounds as though you have been trying to suss it out yourself, instead of letting HardDrake doit. Re: [newbie] aumix not working
Hello, There have been numerous warnings concerning SBLive cards that say that have the emu10k1 chip but, in point of fact, do not. The mere fact that this is possible, makes the SBLive an unatractive option for Linux. Re: [newbie] aumix not working
Yes, as long as it is a *real* SBLive. As I said, one that I bought as such was actually an Ensoniq, so it's necessary to see exactly what HardDrake believes it to be. If it does see SBLive, then emu10k1 is the driver Anne On Wednesday 30 Jul 2003 5:39 am, Erylon Hines wrote: > The SBLive is actually "EMU10K1" > with the ALSA driver > > The mixer is a CS (mine is CS4297A) > > I'm running a vanilla 9.1, no kernel updates. > > On Tuesday 29 July 2003 07:05 pm, Mike Adolf wrote: > > On Tuesday 29 July 2003 02:05 pm, Anne Wilson wrote: > > > On Tuesday 29 Jul 2003 5:20 pm, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > > > Anne Wilson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote .. > > > > > > > > HardDrake recommends somelike (I not at my machine) cs49xx > > > > but if you use that one it errors out on boot. Re: [newbie] aumix not working
The SBLive is actually "EMU10K1" with the ALSA driver The mixer is a CS (mine is CS4297A) I'm running a vanilla 9.1, no kernel updates. Re: [newbie] aumix not working
alsamixergui might save you. If not, i'm not sure what to do about aumix not running. Maybe delete ~/.aumixrc ? Anyway, once you get that sorted out, here is what i did to make my sound work for my first install (the second time i installed it worked from the start...): 0. Run and save kmix 1. Run the aumix gui (i just type aumix at the cl) 2. Under Mute, "Mute All" is checked (despite the sliders being non-zero). Click "Mute All" to uncheck it (this will actually mute all: the sliders all go to zero) 3. Now go back and reselect mute all (the sliders then all go back to non-zero values) 4. Save settings 5. Sound should now work, try alsamixergui if not IF you're running ALSA drivers: after installing the alsa-utils, i ran alsactl store (as root) and rebooted. Sound worked on bootup w/o fiddling...
