Before you do however you might wait a while until someone tells us why that is the stupidest thing you could do. It seems that you have some important packages missing from your original installation, including the drakes - the packages that make up MCC (the Mandrake Control Centre). Rather than doing a complete reinstall, you might be better off just installing the missing bits. You should be able to do this through Konqueror from your CDs - if you don't know how, ask, and I'll send the instructions! I would be happy to reinstall the missing bits if you could please tell me how. Eric Jackson [EMAIL PROTECTED] OK Eric, this *should* work as long as you have the software installer (gurpmi) installed - if you find you have no software installer you'd probably be better off doing a complete reinstall as heaven knows what might also be missing! Open a root terminal and type konqueror (without the quotes). This should open the Konqueror file manager with root privileges. Put the first Mandrake CD in whatever CD device you have. In Konqueror, navigate to the CD device (probably /mnt/cdrom) and then navigate through the folders until you find one full of rpm's. Go through the list of rpm's until you find ones with drake or drak in the name. Right click on one of these rpm's, find the software installer on the menu (it might be on a submenu - sorry, I don't remember!) and follow the instructions to install (select install, not save). If it says it wants to install other rpm's at the same time (dependencies), agree. Once you have installed everything useful-looking from the first CD, repeat with all the other Mandrake CDs. Go back to your root terminal and type mcc (again, no quotes) and the Mandrake Control Centre should come up. Get back to me once you get this far!
