Actually, the giFT network is an open-source version of the FastTrack (read: KaZaa)
network. They have some difficulty though, with not enough search nodes on the network
(I can hardly ever manage to get a search node on my po' 56kbps :/), but there is a
plug-in available so that you can access the real FastTrack network - with all of its
millions of dead files, porn and junk :P

giFT is a daemon that enables you to connect to multiple networks
including FastTrack (the kazaa network), OpenNap, Gnutella and the best
network of all OpenFT (openft is developed by the giFT team so you can
 consider it the native protocol).
Apollon is a KDE gui for giFT and you can get them all from PLF mirrors.

I really recommend giFT (console lovers should try giFTcurs instead of
apollon), consider running an OpenFT searchnode there is a shortage of
 those.

I tried that, but I could never get any decent downloads goin'. I waited about
24 hours and just nothin'. With MLDonkey, I'll get hundreds of hits and have the
full movie in a few days. In the last 6 months I've filled 2 CD cases, about 100
CD's.

Is there a good file sharing program for linux? I know about
Bittorrent, but it seems to be lacking in GUI and search capability.

I have pretty good luck with MLDonkey, GTK-Gnutella, and Napshare, for different
things.

All are available through urpmi, for mldonkey do:

urpmi mldonkey-gui

and it will install the CLI and GUI components, then from a term run 'mldonkey'.

The others are good mostly for MP3's.

Of course, there's also Direct Connect, kinda a combo of chat and filesharing,
Ralph Slooten's way into that.

I got this error after trying to start the giFT daemon. I went through
the config and all that:

*** GIFT-FATAL: couldn't load protocol in file
/usr/lib/giFT/libOpenFT.la: file not found
*** Often times more information can be found in the log file or with
the -v command line switch.

Any ideas?
