[newbie] javascript file errors- Virtual Hosting

2000-12-28 Per discussione Beckycould

I Host websites in a Virtual fashion using Mandrake
7.0.

When I upload webpagescontaining some
javascript.class files into their respective folders the page displays
incorrectly upon inspecting the Error Log it says thata browser was
looking in "My" main website folder for the class file- I dont know what
to call "My Main Folder" except that "My" web folder is located along with all
the others in /home/webs/myfolder like the rest
/home/webs/otherfolders

I do not understand why.. rather than the page
displaying correctly with the contents located within the /webs/folder it
is looking basically in the "main" or "My" main folder-

I have 45 various web sites and One of
them is mine- the name of the DNS Name Server and a Domain name are "One
in the same".

Anyone know what I am experiencing
here?

Muchos Gracias..
Thanks
Beck

[newbie] Java Class Mystery Solved AHA Thanks

2000-12-28 Per discussione Beckycould

Java .class files MUST go to the server in BINARY - never in ASCII
This is number one on the hit list of common errors. If you send the .class
file up in ASCII, the browser basically can't read the file, since it's
looking for a binary Java executable. Variously, the browser status bar
might report a number of errors, often "class file not found" - or it may
just sit there dumb as a bag of dead flies. (This depends on the browser
and version.) If in doubt, send the class file up again.

Oh shoot I bet I sent that last email using HTML
whoops sorry, as I lie here in bed typing I forget about the rest of you
nerds and forget this is a soft spot.
Sorry, Just wanted to ask then share.
Sorry. Im Sorry.. Sorry about the HTML, Sorry.

Becky,

[newbie] Hi Fellow-Penguin Newbies! Anyone know anything about Primary and Second Servers?

2000-12-23 Per discussione Beckycould

When I disconnect my Primary Server from service- I want the Secondary
server to automatically take over providing the websites I am Hosting.

My question is:

Does MY DNS Info at the Open SRS Database tell the world to look at my
Primary IP and if it is "down" will traffic automatically look for my
Secondary IP?

I Can type in my Secondary IP and pull up the index.html of my main website.
I Cannot type in a URL and see any sites come up FROM my Secondary. (when
the Primary is out of service)

Presently The Only way "I know Of" to have the Secondary Server take over AS
the Primary is to change the DNS and IP using LINUXCONF and making the
Secondary BECOME the Primary.

I welcome all help I can get
Thank You,
Becky

Please can you not use HTML when emailing to the list. It can be very
annoying to some of us. I see that you are usign MS Outlook, you can turn
HTML of by clicking Format - Plain Text or type ALT o x.
Sorry I don't know how to solve your problem, but maybe some one else
will.

 Thanks Mark Hillary

2000-12-11 Per discussione Beckycould

I had to install using "Expert" and increase the partition sizes.

Security had to be "Medium" NOT "High".

Finding KFTP never happened but, I did successfully use GIFT!

Thanks Newsier Group!
