And also check out the air filter. Could be running rich at higher rpms
because the air filter is too dirty to allow enough air into the carb. I
don''t know alot about carbs, but it seems to make sense that the engine
could start running rich at higher rpms, which could flood the engine.
Again though, I have not messed with carbs alot yet.

Keep the spark plugs and do the thing where you run he motorcycle fifty
miles, then take the new ones out, and then compare them to the old ones.
Google spark plug chart and you can see kind of what is happening inside
the combustion chamber.

Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Starter Brushes keep burning out.

2018-11-04 Thread Kurt Nolte
If it's going to be a while for the OEM brushes, you can always pull the
cheap ones out, clean them up where they chipped, then use a file to dress
a chamfer into the edges.

It doesn't have to be deep, just enough that you aren't presenting a 90°
edge at the interface with the commutator. Hard edges like that promote
chipping and chatter.

[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: First new to me 750

2018-11-04 Thread Dustin Anderson
Grab some Yamalube Ring Free Plus Fuel Additive and put a cap full in at
every refuel. I have been using that and prayers in my 1984 CB700sc that
only had 18,000 miles on it when I got it. It runs pretty good two years
later and I haven't yet had to rebuild and resync the carbs yet. I know it
is coming, but hopefully I will have another motorcycle to commute with by
then and can rebuild the carbs at an easy pace. Maybe you too will get
fortunate results. I don't know what time of cam chain tensioner you have,
but grab another valve cover gasket and check to make sure your timing is
correct. It is unnecessary, but relatively easy to get to and gives you
peace of mind.

As far as the battery goes, use bikebandit, partszilla or babbitts honda to
find the Honda part number for the motorcycle, then go from there.
Copy/Paste is your friend.

[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Adventure tires for NH750

2018-11-04 Thread Dustin Anderson
As long as you match the rim size and tire dimensions(110/90 or whatever
your stock tire size is) It should be fine. Just go for quality and and be
realistic how aggressive you want the tires to be for the dirt. Metzeler
makes a more aggressive tire in the Karoo 3
, then
Continental has the TKC 70
, and then
there is the Bridgestone Battle Wing BW501/502
,

which a less aggressive dirt tire. I am using revzilla just becuase, find
the best deal for the best tire wherever you can. The motorcycle can
definitely make it. Hope you go and have a good time.

Real quick, just in case somebody else is having the same problem in the
future. I think it is the quality of the materials used in my aftermarket
kit. I am not using Honda OEM brushes. I rebuilt the starter, I didn't
replace the brass bushings just the starter brushes and o-rings, the
bearing and seal was still good. After I got everything back together, I
started the motorcycle and it started wonderfully. I then remembered that I
didn't but the shims back in the brush housing(?), cussed a bit then took
the cap off and put the shims back in, thin/thick/thin. I took a look at
the brushes and after one start they were already flaking apart and there
were little chunks of the brushes in the cap, after one start. So I think I
am going to maybe start the motorcycle first thing in the morning then push
start it till I am done with the day and order some Honda brushes. I also
think that is why the starter housing started getting so gouged up.
Hopefully I dont screw my commutator up until I get the Honda OEM brushes.
