Hey man. Got a battery now. More thinking about the rough running at 6,500 RPMs and above doesn’t do it in first, but all other gears. Grab some Yamalube Ring Free Plus Fuel Additive and put a cap full in at every refuel. I have been using that and prayers in my 1984 CB700sc that only had 18,000 miles on it when I got it. It runs pretty good two years later and I haven't yet had to rebuild and resync the carbs yet. I know it is coming, but hopefully I will have another motorcycle to commute with by then and can rebuild the carbs at an easy pace. Maybe you too will get fortunate results. I don't know what time of cam chain tensioner you have, but grab another valve cover gasket and check to make sure your timing is correct. It is unnecessary, but relatively easy to get to and gives you peace of mind. As far as the battery goes, use bikebandit, partszilla or babbitts honda to find the Honda part number for the motorcycle, then go from there. Copy/Paste is your friend. Keep the spark plugs and do the thing where you run he motorcycle fifty miles, then take the new ones out, and then compare them to the old ones. Google spark plug chart and you can see kind of what is happening inside the combustion chamber. On Sun, Nov 4, 2018 at 3:50 PM Tommy Hill wrote: > I know. Stupid me. Didn’t really think of plugs. Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: First new to me 750
And also check out the air filter. Could be running rich at higher rpms because the air filter is too dirty to allow enough air into the carb. I don''t know alot about carbs, but it seems to make sense that the engine could start running rich at higher rpms, which could flood the engine. Again though, I have not messed with carbs alot yet. Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: First new to me 750
Again, I do not know a lot about carbs, but maybe the carbs are out of sync? Below 6500 rpms the difference in vacuum timing doesn't effect much, but once the engine starts pulling harder, the difference causes the timing of the spark plug firing and the cylinder getting fuel is off? There are two syncs that you do, a mechanical and a vacuum. There are a couple of videos on youtube and probably several people here that can actually explain the procedure. When you look at the spark plugs, that will let you know more of what is going on inside the cylinder. On Wed, Nov 7, 2018 at 1:31 PM Tommy Hill wrote: > Air filter is clean enough. Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: First new to me 750
I’m still not sure what helped it run better. The carbs looked pretty clean, light through all the jets, etc. There was a deposit at the bottom of each bowl, so obviously there had been trash through there, but I bet most carbs would have a little. I cleaned and checked the slides and diagrams, blew out all the passages, and cleaned the float valve seats. Floats looked new as did the float valves. The plugs were pretty dirty. They may have not been the correct plugs either. I don’t know the difference, if any, between DPR8-EA9 and DP8-EA9 as written on the plug. I just know that when it hit 6,500 RPMs, the point of previous rough running and no more acceleration, I almost slid off the back of the seat! Must be a power band there!
