Re: [NSWolves] Snooker

2010-04-18 Thread Steve Dalton
I used to drive past one all the time on Lane Cove Rd in Ryde (main centre
of old Ryde - where the supermarket is) - it was on the left as I was
driving south towards the harbour. Have no idea if it's still going or what
it was like.

Main place I used to play snooker was at the Commercial Travellers club at
Martin Place (this is also where I stayed when I did the fly-in-fly-out work
in Sydney)... but I'm pretty sure they closed it down as the 2 tables they
had got vandelised. The cloth was always a bit dodgy on them, but I couldn't
really complain much as they never charged for it's use.

[NSWolves] QLD Wolves + a new forum?

2009-07-12 Thread Steve Dalton
I created this facebook group for the QLD Wolves to coordinate - we seem a
bit spread out over a few lists, forums and IRC. Feel free to join and tell
anyone else you know:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=102527992948

We can put our potential events on there (such as game viewing and the curry
night) and forward them around our networks.

I was also talking to Darrell on Sunday about molmix and how a lot of people
seem to be banned from this and it's popularity is waning a bit. Anyone
interested in a new forum only site for Australian fans? I still have the
ozwolves.com domain that I could whack up a standard phpbb forums for
everyone on if there was enough interest. If there's going to be future
tours, then we probably need to coordinate better.

Good idea/Crap idea? - you tell me. I don't mind... I'm not much of a forum
poster - but I know a lot of others do.

Anyway - back to work... I am finding it pretty tough today after about 1-2
hours sleep on the red-eye then straight to work...eek

Steve

ps. Awesome Awesome weekend... great to catch up with and meet so many
Wolves fans

[NSWolves] Re: QLD Wolves + a new forum?

2009-07-12 Thread Steve Dalton
Darrell didn't say that - he just told me about how he and few others were
banned - I filled in the waning populatity bit from what some others said. I
don't normally read forums (prefer offline mailing lists) - so my apologies
for jumping the gun there.

Anyway - the ozwolves forums was more just for wolves fans in Aus to
coordinate a bit - but it sounds like molmix is fine. There's still a
facebook group for australian wolves fans if people want to go on that...
and also nswolves, qldwolves etc etc. Looks like a lot of the club sites are
not so active these days with the advent of social networking. I noticed
that all the old favourites like Berlin Wolves etc are all pretty much
unmaintained sites now.

On a different topic I'm going to upload all my photos tonight - does anyone
know which tags people are using on flickr - or do we have a group setup?

people seem to be banned from this and it's popularity is waning a bit.
Anyone interested in a new forum only site for Australian fans? I still have
the ozwolves.com domain that I could whack up a standard phpbb forums for
everyone on if there was enough interest. If there's going to be future
tours, then we probably need to coordinate better.

Good idea/Crap idea? - you tell me. I don't mind... I'm not much of a
forum poster - but I know a lot of others do.

Anyway - back to work... I am finding it pretty tough today after about
1-2 hours sleep on the red-eye then straight to work...eek

A flickr group would be good. I have some stuff to upload too. I think
websites are so web 1.0. Web 2.0 is where it's at, as Craig Belamy
might say. I was suprised to find that there are sixty odd members of
 NSWolves on Facebook.

Do a search for JIWAL on Mol Mix. It will help to explain Darrell's
comments. He's not well liked on there. I think it's more active now than
at any time since I've been using it. Forums always wane a bit as all of
the good discussion topics get used up, and so the focus is more on current
 events.

At least people on MolMix either go to the games or hear snippets about
what's going on behind the scenes. The main reason I go on is to get a
consolidated view of what's happening. It will be easier with all games
televised next season but it has been invaluable in the past. There are
still the full-time negative posters on there but it's easy enough to filter
 them out after a while.

I can't work out with Darrell and his ilk as whether he believes all the
negative stuff or has just got into a habit of finding the worst in
everything or just enjoys being a troll. I sat next to him at the match and
some of his comments were ridiculous (e.g. I remember the last time we
scored from a corner - it was 1978). I think he forgot he wasn't under the
protective duvet offered by cyberspace. A couple of people told me over the
weekend that they'd like to punch his lights out.

 2009/7/13 Steve Dalton steve.dal...@gmail.com

On a different topic I'm going to upload all my photos tonight - does
anyone know which tags people are using on flickr - or do we have a group
 setup?

BREAKING NEWS: City land Fortune! By CI Reporter - 24/06/2009 01:05
It appears that Hull City have won the race ahead of a clutch of English
and Scottish Premier League clubs to sign French striker Marc-Antoine
 Fortune.

A spokeman for New South Wolves, Macus Chantry commented earlier today:

I'm disappointed that we didn't sign this player as I was looking
forward to moaning about how he wasn't the right signing and how it was all
Thick Mick's fault. I know that the club had never mentioned him and I've
never seen him play but now I'll have to moan about not signing him
instead. At least that way there are about 90,000 professional footballers
that we haven't signed so that should keep me busy to end of the transfer
 window.

This article had so much credibility too, with the misspelling of my
team's name and the reference to Glasgow Celtic. I reckon the journalist
really knew what he was talking about and hadn't just added Wolves in as a
 lazy piece of journalism.

BREAKING NEWS: City land Fortune! By CI Reporter - 24/06/2009 01:05

It appears that Hull City have won the race ahead of a clutch of English
and Scottish Premier League clubs to sign French striker Marc-Antoine
 Fortune...

Sources close to City Independent believe Hull City have won the race to
sign AS Nancy striker Marc-Antoine Fortune and the forward is set to
complete a brand new deal with the Tigers within the next 24 hours.

City had been facing stiff opposition for the centre forward from
Fulham, Wolverhampton Wanderes, Glasgow Celtic and Portsmouth, but reports
are now indicating that Phil Brown has captured the former West Bromwich
Albion loanee and the striker will become Hull City's first signing of the
 summer.

Fortune impressed last season in the Premier League when scoring 5 times
for beleaguered West Bromwich Albion in 17 appearances, after making his
debut on 17th January for the Baggies in a home match against
 Middlesbrough,
which Fortune scored to record a 3-1 victory.

Now, City Independent expect reports to break later today confirming
Marc-Antoine Fortune will complete his switch to Hull City instead of the
other interested parties by signing a 3 year deal worth £25,000 a week.

 2009/5/27 Marcus Chantry marcus.chan...@macquarie.com

Even though we're taking 50, that doesn't include anyone from either
Victoria or WA Wolves supporters clubs. From memory Vic has quite a large
group of fans so I reckon there could easily be another 50+ between those
two states. I reckon there might be somewhere between 20-50 through the
official Wolves Travel Club although it might be hard for a lot of people in
the UK to justify the expense in the current GFC.
It also seems like quite a few people registered interest with Perth Glory
who would have been sent the ticket forms directly from the club, so
 possibly another 100 from that.

So I'd think that about 300 in the Wolves enclosure sounds right. Around
the rest of the ground I'm sure there will be plenty more Wolves fans.

Firstly, congratulations on your promotion to the glitzy, plastic league.
I personally hope you will hang around longer this time – you deserve it.

I am on this distribution list as I am on old friend of Marcus Chantry.
 However,
I should point out that I am a Pompey fan and have also seen a number of
Glory games over the years. I was originally going to be sitting with you
lot but have advised Marcus that I will free up my seat for one of the other
Wolves fans. I will be at the game though.

However, in the interests of maintaining good relationships with the proper
fans of proper teams (i.e. our respective replica shirts are not available
at K-Mart); I am more than happy to field any queries about your trip to
Perth. I live 10 minutes walk from the ground and know the local pubs,
hotels and nightlife areas pretty well. Of course, you probably have
thousands of Wolves fans here in Perth to give you some advice, but just
in case, here are some initial tips:

 · Be careful in Northbridge – at night it can make Kings Cross
seem like Double Bay! If you must venture in there, the best pubs are the
Elephant and Wheelbarrow in Lake Street (though no football shirts
allowed) or Rosie O’Grady’s (typical Irish theme pub) in James Street. At
a stretch, try the Brass Monkey on the corner of William and James Street.
 Pretty safe when inside.

 · Of the pubs nearest the ground, the Brisbane is very up-market
(Australian Pub of the Year a couple of times in its 5 year post-renovation
phase) and will probably not allow football shirts in. The Queens has a
slightly more relaxed dress code but is still a great pub. The Flying
Scotsman is grungy, friendly and Friday night is lesbian night (!). All
three of these are in Beaufort Street, Highgate/Mount Lawley. The Hyde
Park Hotel on the corner of Fitzgerald and Bulwer Street, North Perth is
the home of the Glory Shed Boys. The Hotel Northbridge (on the fringe of
the dodgy bit) in Brisbane Street is probably your best bet and is about a
10 minute walk to the ground (it also has accommodation).

 · Slightly further afield, there are some nice restaurants and
pubs in East Perth, on the new canal development. The Royal (60 Royal
Street) is right on the water and serves reasonable pub grub. It’s a good
25 min walk to the ground.

 · In the City, your best bets are The Moon and Sixpence in Hay
Street and Bobby Dazzlers next door. A bit further up (West) are
Carnegie’s and the Belgian Beer Café – but both will be packed on a Friday
 night with the office crowd

 · A good curry (and I know that’s almost your national dish in
the Black Country) can be found at Gogo’s in Beaufort Street, just up from
 the Queens (see above).

 · Overall, the best areas to spend your evenings in close to the
City are Highgate/Mount Lawley, Leederville and Subiaco. At a stretch
 Mount Hawthorn.

I should point out that I am a member of Pompey Down Under (“PDU”), the
official Pompey supporters club for Australia, which has its HQ in Perth.
We have our meeting this Wednesday and I was wondering whether you would
like me to mention your impending invasion. Nothing unsavory - just a
chance to catch up for a few beers at our club venue or to arrange a social
football match. We did it with the Cardiff guys before the Cup Final last
 year (ah, memories).

Have a great trip and please don’t be upset at Marcus for letting a
potential enemy into your social circle.

 Peter Marchant

P.S. Fulham will be here as well. I may well send a similar e-mail to

Why not put in on Wikipedia and see if it catch like that quote did.

 2009/5/22 Marcus Chantry marcus.chan...@macquarie.com

In my opinion his range of passing and the accuracy is still second to none
and he definitely retired from the England scene way too early.. Surely
he'd rather play every week for us than only coming on every second game as
a sub for Man U? He's a very quiet and private person though so he probably
wouldn't have a great deal of influence in the dressing room but he would
definitely show our young blokes what it takes to be the model professional
 footballer.

the rumour was about Nicky Butt, not Paul Scholes. I would move back to
England for 12 months just to see Scholesy run around in a Wolves shirt.
The guy is still class even though he's getting on a bit. If we could get a
defensive midfielder in as well then Scholes could pull the creative strings
 for us.

However, the chances of us getting Scholes or anyone of that quality are
 somewhere between zero and f-all.

you would like to think that we'll have a couple of new faces sorted for
the trip to Perth. The off-season is pretty short so we need to get them in

I'd rather try and get Scholes on loan than go for Nicky Butt as is being

Just reading the Gold Coast Bulletin today - Fulham are also apparently
going to be playing the new Gold Coast United team on 9th July at Skilled
Park. It will be the first game for the new GC team. Apparently it is
costing Clive Palmer, the owner of the club $300k to put on the match...
apparently most of this will be recouped in tickets hmmm.

Talk about a baptism of fire for the new club well at least the NRL fans
will be happy to see plenty of goals and not a boring 0-0 :)

  Good afternoon everyone,

further to Lee's innocuous question yesterday about whether the Wolves
Travel Club price was based on per person or per room, I have now had
confirmation back from them that their price is quoted per person on a
twin-share basis. This is not what I had originally assumed.

Furthermore, they have quoted a price of $800 if people want their own
individual room. This now makes their package price significantly more
expensive than if we book directly with the hotel.

I figured nobody would be interested at that inflated price so I took an
executive decision and contacted the Citigate Hotel, where the Wolves Travel
Club are staying, and have reserved 10 rooms for the nights of 9th/10th/11th
July at a rate of $175 per night = $525 total for 3 nights. If anyone would
like one of these rooms then please let me know and I'll put you down for
one (I currently have myself, Les Lloyd, Lee Morris, Mark Worrall and
Darrell Yates down for rooms so there are 5 left). Also, if anyone
wants to share a room please also let me know. If anyone wants a room for 2
nights or for more than 3 nights please also let me know and I'll try and
 get something sorted for you.

I will obtain match tickets for everyone via Perth Glory, who I spoke to
 again this morning.

I think it would be good if we could all stay in the same hotel, plus
have all the Wolves Travel Club contingent there as well. I have reserved
the rooms on my Credit Card so no payment will have to be made just yet.

Have a good weekend everyone and lets hope we get the right result.

 Cheers
