Regarding font installation, detection and other (non font related) issues which occur recurrently when working with (Con)TeX(t), which GNU/Linux distribution(s) is(/are) most user-friendly ? Alan I just avoid font miseries by relying mostly on the \font primitive. The complexities of creating and using typescripts etc. take too much time and too much head scratching. I do use the Texfont utility to create the necessary font bits and pieces when I buy a new type 1 font. All the aliases etc. in Context don't help me much. I simply define the needed fonts in the sizes I will use. If I need another size I just copy the \font statement, change the font name and change the size parameter. For nimbus bold condensed I end up with fonts named numbux nimbuy nimbua etc. This is of course not the Context way, but it saves me time and grief. I depend on texlive in my Slackware 12.1 distro. Slack comes with tetex but AFAIK that is no longer updated. Therefore I don't bother to include it when building Slack. I install texlive from the cdr and then modify /etc/profile by adding /usr/local/texlive/2007/bin/i386-linux: to the PATH= string. Thus far the versions of Context (mkii) and pdftex etc. found on texlive have been stable and reliable. -- John Culleton Resources for every author and publisher: http://wexfordpress.com/tex/shortlist.pdf http://wexfordpress.com/tex/packagers.pdf http://www.creativemindspress.com/newbiefaq.htm http://www.gropenassoc.com/TopLevelPages/reference%20desk.htm ___ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://tex.aanhet.net archive : https://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextrev/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net ___
[NTG-context] setupMMLappearance
Hello. I am used to using \setupMMLappearance[mtable][alternative=a|b|c] to change the way the mathml module treats mtable alignments. I've just discovered it no longer seems to have any effect. What I need to set up is an alignment where the first column of an mtable is right-aligned (ragged left), the second is centred, and the third is left-aligned (ragged right). But I keep getting the first column left-aligned, which makes multi-line equations look awful. Is there a new mechanism for setting these alignments? It looked like it from reading newmml, but there don't seem to be any examples of usage. Can someone help? Secondary question: how can I increase the gap between rows in an mtable - at the moment they are very squashed. Sample code follows - produces ugly output on the garden: \usemodule[newmml] \setupMMLappearance[mtable][alternative=b] \starttext \startXMLdata formulamathmtablemtrmtdmfracmrowmtextAverage inventory/mtext/mrowmrowmtextCost of sales/mtext/mrow/mfracmotimes;/momspace width=0.35em/mtext365/mtext/mtdmtdmo=/mo/mtdmtdmtextaverage number of days to turn inventory into sales/mtext/mtd/mtrmtrmtdmfracmrowmtextpound;305/mtext/mrowmrowmtextpound;1,830/mtext/mrow/mfracmotimes;/momspace width=0.35em/mtext365/mtext/mtdmtdmo=/mo/mtdmtdmtext60.83 days/mtext/mtd/mtr/mtable/math/formula \stopXMLdata \stoptext I'm using mk II. [NTG-context] Indexing problem solved. Makeindex works with Context!
I discovered an old file in the texsis distribution called index.tex. Unlike eplain.tex it doesn't cause problems when used with Context. It creates the book.idx file required by makeindex. Now the full range of features of makeindex are available to Context users. The only change needed is trivial, in every \index statement change the + sign to ! and of course run makeindex between Context runs. This solution is simple enough and adds enough power to Context that I suggest it be incorporated into the texexec program. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of eplain but it has enough to produce a professional index. And since that is part of my business I welcome it. For a book named book.tex here is all that is required today: \input index.tex %This overwrites the Context \index macro \index{main item!secondary item} %two level item ... \idx{resorted [EMAIL PROTECTED] item''} %prints index item in quotes ... \input book.ind %prints index I haven't checked out all the other extra features, such as putting proof marks in the margin, but the above is sufficient for starters. -- John Culleton Precision Typesetting Able Indexers and Typesetters http://wexfordpress.com ___ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://tex.aanhet.net archive : https://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextrev/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net ___
