[NTG-context] How to export to PDF-A?
Dear ConTeXt community, There is a document I wrote in ConTeXt that I’m required to submit in PDF-A. I’ve already done my RTFM homework: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/PDF/A including links in it, but can’t figure out how to apply it in practice. So far I’ve identified two possible issues: • I haven’t set it right in the source https://gitlab.com/fla-llm-thesis/fla-llm-thesis/ https://gitlab.com/context-modules/pful • The ICC profiles aren’t in the right place – I can’t figure out where they should be on a Linux system. [NTG-context] Difference between \skip and \unskip
Hullo, can someone tell me what's the difference between \skip and \unskip and when to use them? I've already checked the wiki and the references, but cannot find a definition of either. [NTG-context] Searching for ConTeXt made easier
Hullo, I'm not trying to advertise[1] anything, but since ConTeXt is a very generic name and not easy to search for on Google or other search engines, I decided to share my solution. Blekko is a new web search engine, which lets you set slashtags to limit your search. So I've made a slashtag to limit searching only on ConTeXt-related sites. E.g. http://blekko.com/ws/termes+/silverhook/context (= typing termes /silverhook/context in the search field) would search for the term termes on those sites only. Personally I feel that the political correctness has gone a bit too far, but where the line should be drawn, I don't know. I can provide a few examples of where political correctness *has* gone too far and can actually be even counter-productive: In Slovenia it is rude to call Bosnians Bosanci, Albanians Šiptarji and Gypsies Cigani and the official political correct terms for them are: Bošnjaki, Albanci and Romi. With first two the problem is that they even officially call _themselves_ Bosanci and Šiptarji in their own language. With the so called Roma people, the problem is even bigger, since to my knowledge Roma are just one of the tribes. So by having to call _all_ gypsies Roma, you are effectively putting one tribe in front of the others and denying the existence of the others. Re: [NTG-context] Semantic data in ConTeXt?
Dne nedelja 25. julija 2010 ob 12:02:58 je Hans Hagen napisal(a): Could be a nice topic for context conference. It would be, yes :] We have tagging but the pdf spec leave handling tags to the application (it uses it for spoken text for instance). Technically tagged content can have user attributes (read rdf) but it's of no use if there is no application that does something with it. From a quick search on Wikipedia, I found out that PDF[1] indeed does support RDF[2] via XMP[3] embedded in the PDF file. The problem here really does seem to be where ConTeXt comes into play. I suppose it would be enough for ConTeXt if it would support embedding RDF via XMP into PDF. How this semantic data would get to ConTeXt would get there should be a problem for the user and/or the editor (s)he uses. * From the editor side, on the KDE SC[4] desktop I imagine getting Kile[5] to import RDF from NEPOMUK[6] and Akonadi[7] databases would be possible. * Another possibility would be for ConTeXt to support importing RDF directly from iCal and vCard, FoaF[8], SIOC[9] etc. ...in both cases though I think it would be enough if ConTeXt could simply include or refer to an external XML file that includes the needed RDF data and generate a PDF from that. IMHO as a non/idiot coder on top of that additional modules could be written to e.g. automatically tag the PDF with NEPOMUK tags. As far as the PDF end user side is concerned, I think we needn't worry. I've talked to some guys from the W3C and they are very much working in the direction of semantic data driving pretty much everything on the web and on the desktop. As already said, KDE is also very strong here and other big desktops (including MacOS and Windows) are trying to catch up as well. From what I gathered, both the semantic desktop side and the semantic web[10] seem to have a sure future and we should see widespread use in the next two years or so. Cheers, Matija -.-.- P.S. [NTG-context] Semantic data in ConTeXt?
Hullo, this is something that's been bothering me for quite a while: Will ConTeXt support semantic meta-information? A few examples: * could ConTeXt automatically tag the PDF it creates e.g. via Nepomuk[1]? * could the bibliography be enriched with RDF triples? * by selecting an event or contact mentioned in a document made by ConTeXt, could you import that into your organiser or address book? * if a document made by ConTeXt was put online, could meta-data inside it reveal the semantic meaning of its contents and creator for easier searching? * ditto for local storage? From my understanding this depends on whether PDF can have RDF included and/or whether ConTeXt could output to ODF. Currently KOffice is leading the pace here with OOo just a bit behind it and AbiWord still needing to catch up. There's an interesting article[2] in Linux Magazine about how KOffice uses libferris to integrate RDF into ODF. With semantic web and semantic desktop creeping up at a fast pace, it'd be a pity not to make use of it IMHO. [NTG-context] Bibliography + citation combo
Hullo, a few weeks (months?) ago there was a debate on this list about sprucing up the 'bib' module. I don't know what the policy about reviving old threads is, so I started a new one. The biggest problem I had (and still do) with the 'bib' module is that I cannot directly use the data I have stored as bibliography data in the on-page citations. In my PF_UL style I had to introduce a few new bibfields that basically repeating the same data again. E.g. to have a list of shortened names like J. Smith, H. Potter and G. Gray in the on-page citation, while keeping the full names at the end of the text in the bibliography like Smith, John; Potter, Harry and Gray, Gandalf I now have to write for each cited work another bibfield when I add its data: --[snip]-- \newbibfield[shortauthor] \startpublication[k=zdr_komentar, a=Becan, t=knjiga, y=2008, ] \title{Zakon o delovnih razmerjih s komentarjem} \kratko{ZDR s komentarjem} \author{Irena}[I.]{}{Bečan} \author{Nataša}[N.]{}{Belopavlovič} \author{Aleksej}[A.]{}{Cvetko} \author{Miran}[M.]{}{Kalčič} \author{Marta}[M.]{}{Klampfer} \author{Polonca}[P.]{}{Končar} \author{Etelka}[E.]{}{Korpič Horvat} \author{Barbara}[B.]{}{Kresal} \author{Katarina}[K.]{}{Kresal Šoltes} \author{Janez}[J.]{}{Novak} \author{Mitja}[M.]{}{Novak} \author{Tatjana}[T.]{}{Plešnik} \author{Darja}[D.]{}{Senčur Peček} \author{Zvone}[Z.]{}{Vodovnik} \shortauthor{I. [NTG-context] Internet archive integration into bibliography
Hullo, lately I got an great idea(TM) concerning citing internet sources. \\ Initial problem: the internet is ever changing, what says on a page today, might not be there tomorrow and in ten years' time the page might not exist at all. \\ Solution so far: just smack the date (and time) next to the link. I've seen that often and my faculty expects this from me as well. \\ Problem with the solution so far: it doesn't solve anything really. \\ Solution(TM): along with the URL and date, add the Internet Archive's link from that time next to it as well. The ‘Solution(TM)’ is a bit tedious though, so it'd be great if ConTeXt could automate this process a bit. What I'm thinking is, if ConTeXt could take the URL and date stored in the bibliography (.bbl) and combine it together to form a URL of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine to point to that particular page at that particular time. In the document's bibliography then it could be rendered something like this: Wikipedia: ConTeXt; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ConTeXt; as seen on the day: 12th of April 2010 at 13:45 With http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ConTeXt; being a hyperlink to just that and 12th of April 2010 being a hyperlink to http://web.archive.org/web/20100412134500/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ConTeXt Note: using any date and time works OK with the archive.org, since if the date doesn't exist in its database, it falls back to the last archived site before the date requested. What do you think? Would this make sense? If so, should we enable it by default? So the only solutions would be a) if ConTeXt could use in-line SVG or b) I'll have to port the SVG logo into MetaPost. Is there a non-overhelming howto somewhere ...It's a relatively simple logo (see attachment) :\ Cheers, Matija -- gsm: +386 41 849 552 www: http://matija.suklje.name xmpp: matija.suk...@gabbler.org attachment: plussy_plain.svg___ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://tex.aanhet.net archive : http://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextrev/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net ___

And soon (I hope) we'll get math support for the TeXGyre fonts as well. As a law student I don't actually need any major math support, but I'll take notice of these as well. I'd suggest a readable serif as body font, I like e.g. TeXGyre Schola (Century Schoolbook) - it's a bit conservative and ill suited for titling sizes - and perhaps a sans-serif for titlings, e.g. LM Sans or TeXGyre Heros (Helvetica). Thanks for the suggestion. Is there a page where I can preview these fonts? Re: [NTG-context] ConTeXt-ifying Kile
OK, it's been a fun day's work, but here's the current working version of the context.cwl file. What it does include: * all the commands with all the fields mentioned on texshow.contextgarden.net * the rest of the commands that I used from the list Idris sent me are currently commented out, until I find out they're valid (although not on texshow) * all the fields have short descriptions * all the \start* commands end with appropriate \stop* commands * some of the fields (where it was simple to do it) use a '|' character as a separator inside fields What it does not include: * a syntax completely as Kile's README.cwl would want to have (especially because of my misuse of \start* \stop* in the same command and Mojca's separator suggestion) * a completely coherent and Kile-valid syntax is still missing, although as it is, the file is usable * some commands are commented out, as mentioned above Installation: copy or link the file to /usr/share/apps/kile/complete/tex/ (or the appropriate kile/complete/tex/ directory) and add context.cwl in Kile's settings under Kile-Complete-TeX/LaTeX I hope anyone finds it useful and that I manage to get it working perfectly/validly soon. This does not take care of the compatibility method of cite, viz. \cite{ref}. Hmmm, I'll try this later. Thanks for the code though. I hope I will be able to implement it. Also in connection with that — is it possible (already) to utilise \useskip so that not only the empty space of the missing field, but also it's separators (e.g. \inserteditor{ed: }{, }{}) are being skipped? I am not sure I understand. From what I remember, if the editor is not present, only the last field will be used, so there will be no separators. That makes sense. Hoekwater, BIB (2006), pp. 2-4 * and in the appendix a list with longer forms like Hoekwater, Taco: BIBLIOGRAPHIES (2. edition), Oxford press, London 2006 How I *imagined* it could be made — but failing at it miserably: * I defined a separate field 'kratko' in the .bbl file for shortened titles. * I *thought* that \cite would produce a numbred reference (e.g. [IV], or [4]) in the place in the text where I'm calling up \cite (just the number, not the 'extras' — e.g. \cite[extras={ str. 2-5}]) * I planned to convience \cite to place the content plus it's extras to form a footnote with a short(-ish) citation format — using 'kratko' instead of 'title' fields, skipping some fields, different layout etc. * and then to convience \placepublications to write a long citation format — using 'title', adding other fields, different layout etc. I thought that you can do that by defining (also for each 'type') a different setup for what \cite shows and for what and how things are placed in the \placepublications ...I thought that's what \setupcite (for \cite) and \setuppubplications and \setuppublicationlist (for \placepublications) are. ...slowly I'm beginning to think that either ConTeXt's bib module is not matching my (faculty's) needs or that I just simply don't understand how it works.
