Thanks Thomas, actually that was easy and I guess not very interesting. I just scanned the very different XXth century outputs and inserted them as images. I did some much more complicated stuff (notation generation) with a mix of technologies e.g. here, ConTeXt as a document wrapper: https://www.academia.edu/29939998/Historia_universalis <https://www.academia.edu/29939998/Historia_universalis> Best -a- -- Andrea Valle -- CIRMA - StudiUm Università degli Studi di Torino --> http://www.cirma.unito.it/andrea/ --> http://www.fonurgia.unito.it/andrea/ --> http://www.flickr.com/photos/vanderaalle/sets/ --> http://vimeo.com/vanderaalle --> http://andreavalle.bandcamp.com --> andrea.va...@unito.it -- "This is a very complicated case, Maude. [NTG-context] \copypages and page numbering
Dear all, I’m assembling into a unique pdf the proceedings of a conference. They have been created by various sw (latex, word, writer etc). In order to include the papers, I’m just using a series of commands like \copypages[CIMXXI_contributi/dapelo][][scale=950] They are not provided with page numbers, and I’m including them in the usual way. Now, most of the time it just works. All the papers should conform to a template, but in some cases, page numbers are not displayed, and this depends on the fact that the page setup in that paper has a greater height (or maybe a different crop area), so that it covers the page number. I would simply solve the problem by having the page number on top of the imported pdf. Is it possible? This is just my experience, for what it worth: I always find very good recipes, and fast help by this wonderful list on specific topics, but I don't feel to be able to really generalize my knowledge. It's easy to have good stuff with ConTeXt, much more complicated to make it do what you want. Maybe I just need some good lectures I missed. So maybe I need pointers. I assume that (a) TeX Live 2008 with its tlmgr utility, or (b) ConTeXt minimals, are the two realistic possibilities - is this correct? What I'd like: - A clear way of keeping ConTeXt mkiv usable and up to date with Hans's latest version - An installation method that will continue to be maintained, and that is expected to be used by the majority of ordinary users of ConTeXt in the future ...So should I go for TeX Live, or the minimals, or something else I don't know about yet? I would suggest MacTeX 2008 + minimals. I have both, with manually slightly updated ConTeXt in MacTeX 2008. MacTeX is nice since it "always works" (includes LaTeX and dozens of fonts and other packages that might be missing in minimals) and you have a backup system in case that the "latest alpha" in minimals gets broken. I have this in ~/.bash_profile: #. context/tex/setuptex context/tex and I keep commenting/uncommenting it as needed (or just execute that line in bash). The nice thing about minimals is that it doesn't interfere with other TeX distributions, so you can have it installed in parallel and it doesn't take too much space when compared with TeX Live. You need some additional hacks to get the minimals working in gui applications. Oliver started writing an installer that could simplify matters a bit, but got stuck with some external bugs at some point and didn't publically release anything yet. Re: [NTG-context] off-topic : about smultron
Dear Dalyoung, Sorry,I don't know. The only thing I've noticed is that Smultron refreshes its result window after compilation is completed and not while compiling, I guess it's a matter of piping. So, sometimes there a relevant lag and I have to wait a bit in order to look at what has happened. I couldn't figure out when it did and when it didn't. Even in the case that it showed the result, it didn't refresh after I compiled the same file again. Does some one help me to fix it? Thank you. Re: [NTG-context] smultron editor with ConTeXt also usable with MacTeX-TL?
Hi Joachim, Might it be worthwile to use Smultron (instead of TeXShop) as editor also with the Mac-TeX-TL installation which I have? Well, it's just a matter of taste: i.e. If you like Smultron more than TeXShop. #!/bin/sh This means that Smultron must calls to use bash shell, i.e. it's like using Terminal cd /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/ . /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/setuptex /Applications/ ConTeXtMinimals/tex cd %%d texexec %%p These lines are the ones you would write into Terminal, with some special syntax (%%d, %%p) allowed by Smultron. (Please note that I'm pretty an ignorant about Smultron editing capabilites) As far as I'm able to look after it, my TeXLife installation is located in: /usr/local/texlive/2007 with ConTeXt scripts in: /usr/local/texlive/texmf-local/tex/context But I don't dare to adapt the Smultron configuration above without confirmation or alternative instruction ... Well, you can try with no risks. Create a new command, try with to change the paths, if everything is wrong you simply delete the command. No problems at all. Or have I to decide wether to continue to use ConTeXt in MacTeX- TeXLife with TeXShop _OR_ to install Minimal-ConTeXt and use it with Smultron? I have opted for Smultron so that I left my TeXLive distro (TeXShop included) untouched. That was the rationale behind choosing Smultron. In the future (if sooner or later someone explain me how to use fonts) my plan is to use Smultron+Minimals, leaving TeXShop+TeXLive only for LaTeX (for paper proceedings) Best -a- Goutgaun! joachim -- Kreimer-de Fries __ _ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://tex.aanhet.net archive : https://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextrev/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net __ _ ------ Andrea Valle -- CIRMA - DAMS Università degli Studi di Torino --> http://www.cirma.unito.it/andrea/ --> http://www.myspace.com/andreavalle --> [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- " Think of it as seasoning . noise [salt] is boring . To be clear, I'm quite grateful to devs and helpers (and I'd really like to come to Bohinj...), but IMHO it does not make much sense to keep on posting code snippets without giving general infos on what's going on. So that people simply copy and paste them without understanding what's going on. "Is it working?" "No" "Ah, then try with this" etc It's pretty evident that fonts are a problematic issue. Hi now I'm trying to use Optima. So I assembled a type-optima.tex with this: \starttypescript [sans] [optima] \definefontsynonym [OptimaRegular] [name:Optima Regular] [features=default] \definefontsynonym [OptimaBold] [name:Optima Bold] [features=default] \definefontsynonym [OptimaBoldItalic] [name:Optima Bold Italic] [features=default] \definefontsynonym [OptimaExtraBlack] [name:Optima ExtraBlack] [features=default] \definefontsynonym [OptimaItalic] [name:Optima Italic] [features=default] \stoptypescript \starttypescript [sans] [optima] \definefontsynonym [Sans][OptimaRegular] [features=default] \definefontsynonym [SansItalic] [OptimaItalic] [features=default] \definefontsynonym [SansBold][OptimaBold] [features=default] \definefontsynonym [SansBoldItalic] [OptimaBoldItalic] [features=default] \definefontsynonym [SansExtra] [OptimaExtraBlack] [features=default] \stoptypescript \starttypescript \definetypeface[optima][rm][sans][optima][default] \definetypeface[optima][ss][sans][optima][default] \definetypeface[optima][tt][mono][modern] [default][rscale=1.12] \definetypeface[optima][mm][math][iwona] [default][rscale=1.02] \stoptypescript Then, did the usual stuff. But the pdf from \usetypefile [optima] \usetypescript[optima] \setupbodyfont[optima] \starttext Oh yes, I'm a test, baby {\bf there's a little} {\em black} {\sc spot} in the sun today \stoptext uses LM. The console says: specials : fdf loaded ) (type-optima.tex) ... the font file is Optima.dfont Best -a- On 15 Jul 2008, at 16:18, Mojca Miklavec wrote: On Tue, Jul 15, 2008 at 4:16 PM, Mojca Miklavec wrote: Hello Andrea, before proceeding any further ... where on earth did you find exactly that font? :) :) :) It's a "resource-based" Type1 font or whatever they call it. I don't believe that LuaTeX supports such fonts at all, but maybe Taco can correct me. XeTeX only supports those fonts when using xdv2pdf engine (xdvipdfmx doesn't honor them). And I would say "if you really wanted to use those fonts in ConTeXt, there is a way, but hardcoded deep down in ConTeXt core". Btw: with the fonts that you have sent me, the definitions should be \starttypescript [sans] [delicious] \definefontsynonym [Delicious-Regular][file:DelicRom] [features=default] \definefontsynonym [Delicious-Italic] [file:DelicIta] [features=default] \definefontsynonym [Delicious-Bold] [file:DelicBol] [features=default] \definefontsynonym [Delicious-BoldItalic] [file:DelicBolIta] [features=default] % it should be features=smallcaps for normal fonts \definefontsynonym [Delicious-Caps] [file:DelicSmaCap] [features=default] \stoptypescript But the font doesn't work with LuaTeX anyway (it could work in XeTeX), so do not even try. The name after "file:" needs to match the filename. Ciao Mojca, before proceeding any further ... where on earth did you find exactly that font? :) :) :) On the ConTeXt mailing list, I was just following a previous thread on fonts :) You need to download PC (OpenType) font, not Mac (Type1). Ok, done, now I see that the original file names by Wolfgang matches Apart from that, it works for me, Yes! for me too! but kpsewhich type-delicious.tex needs to return you the file if you want to be able to use it. And nothing, neither with luatools kpsewhich Delicious-Roman.otf needs to return you something as well. (replace kpsewhich by luatools in the previous sentence) the only thing which works is: polifilo:~ andreavalle$ luatools Delicious-Roman.otf /Users/andreavalle/Library/Fonts/Delicious-Roman.otf Is there a place where to put the the type- .tex files, so that they are available without having them to include in the working folder? Re: [NTG-context] fonts (in luatex) (again)
You only need the second command. cd is not needed. Once you issue . /Applications/CM/tex/setuptex /Applications/CM/tex you should be able to run both mtxrun --script font --reload mtxrun --script font --list Maybe try to run luatools --selfupdate luatools --generate before that. Ah, ok, it sets up the path for the session. Done. The list does not include delicious as far as I can say, and the total is the same as before (161) not delicious (I guess it's LM) Looks as if something is wrong with filename database. Does luatools --generate solve anything? Worse :) Now, in both circumstances (with type-delicious in /base or in the same folder of my test.tex file) compilation aborts. l.3 \setupbodyfont[delicious] ! ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced! Re: [NTG-context] fonts (in luatex) (again)
Still, can't have this font stuff working... (which I do not understand: but that's another story) I have saved the file under the same folder of tex file I'm working at 3. then I have called: context --generate 3.1. Generate name entries for the font database To access fonts with the name you have to create the database with the entries: mtxrun --script font --reload where should I be in order to run it? I have not set the env variables, I'm using this kind of approach: cd /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/ . /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/setuptex /Applications/ ConTeXtMinimals/tex 4. In my tex file I have added: \usetypefile [delicious] \usetypescript[delicious] \setupbodyfont[delicious] 5. while compiling I'm having a problem with delicious. Log attached Make a test with the fonts and the files in the same directory. This does not work. It aborts because of delicious not found. But if I put the type-delicious.tex file in /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/ then run mtxrun --script font --reload I have not errors, but the used font is not delicious (I guess it's LM) When this did not work access the fonts by filename and not by fontname, to do thos you have to replace "name:" by "file:", this is unproblematic for the delicious fonts because fontname and filename are equal. Does not change anything Thanks Best -a- Regards Wolfgang __ _ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://tex.aanhet.net archive : https://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextrev/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net __ _ ------ Andrea Valle -- CIRMA - DAMS Università degli Studi di Torino --> http://www.cirma.unito.it/andrea/ --> http://www.myspace.com/andreavalle --> [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- " Think of it as seasoning . noise [salt] is boring .
