Thanks Johannes for your efforts to port Openoffice into a usable editor for
context (if I'm guessing right your aim ...)
I've tried your files, whith corrections from Wolfgang : it's working.
But then I've added lists and images : it's not working.
At my user level, I don't understand what you're doing, but maybe others are
like me : write texts in OO and finely tune them via luatex (given the
understanding of t-openoffice.tex ...) : so we can easily import existing
docs, etc.
TIA for any answer

Hi Liesbeth,
If you cannot convert correctly your image, I can try to 'pstopdf' it.
Send it directly to my mail address if it's under 9.5 M, an if bigger,
winrar can cut it into smaller chunks.
Maybe it'll solve your pb.

Hi Thomas,
I've played with your presentation module and fond it nice to see.
In order to have it working on my system, I've "adapted" t-taspresent.tex
to my system needs (ubuntu + sanjoy's texlive repository = context
version:2007.04.17) :
line 169 : commented \usetypescriptfile[type-gyr]
line 554 : changed from a = 2*NOfPages-1 ; to numeric a ; a = 2*NOfPages-1 ;
line 555 : changed from c = PaperHeight/a ; to numeric c; c =
PaperHeight/a ;

HTH. Thanks for providing us both nice model and well commented source.

Thanks a lot Luigi, it's working fine now.

For inserting external doc, I was doing
\getfiguredimensions[external-doc]
\dorecurse{\noffigurepages}{
\externalfigure
[external-doc]
[width=1\textwidth,height=1\textheight,offset=-1cm]
[page=\recurselevel]}

And page numbering, via
\setuppagenumbering[location=,state=stop]
\setupheadertexts [\setups{chapter-toc}]
\startsetups[chapter-toc]
\rlap{\hspace{}}
\hfill
\llap{\pagenumber\space/\space\lastpage}
\stopsetups

was working

Now, this "old" inserting code is no more working : I get a blank page.
It does'nt matter, as long as this one works (partially):
\copypages[external-doc][width=1.1\textwidth,height=1\textheight]

But i loose page numbers. (only get "\lastpage")

How can I achieve this ?

TIA for any answer

[NTG-context] acrobat reader does not open a pdf

2007-07-03 Thread Olivier TURLIER
Hi everybody,

Acrobat reader 7 (linux) cannot open "doc-test-gobck.pdf"

I usually include external documentation (catalogs, etc.) as a clickable
link which open another doc. ("parent-doc-test.{tex,pdf}" -->
"doc-test-gobck.{tex,pdf}")

On those external doc, I put buttons for returning to the parent doc. I
was making this thru variables for easy creation, and moreover for
multiple page inserting.

But now (context version: 2007.04.17) acrobat (linux/ubuntu feisty &
acrobat reader 8 win xp) refuse to work (kpdf does !)

Have you a better approach (for making those "sons" docs)?
TIA for any answer

Thanks a lot Sanjoy,

I was a bit desperate to be able to update context via the apt mecanism,
to a point that I was willing to test indesign ...

I can now use optima font whith a (borrowed again from Hans perfect docs)
 whithout any hassle :
% definetypeface[mainface][ss][sans] [iwona] [default][encoding=texnansi]
\definetypeface[mainface][ss][sans] [iwona]
 [default][encoding=ec]
\definetypeface[mainface][rm][serif][latin-modern]
[default][encoding=texnansi,rscale=1.05]
\definetypeface[mainface][tt][mono] [latin-modern]
[default][encoding=texnansi,rscale=1.1]
\definetypeface[mainface][mm][math] [times] [default][encoding=default,
rscale=1.05]

% definetypeface[heavyss] [ss][sans]  [iwona-heavy]
[default][encoding=texnansi]
\definetypeface[narrowtt][tt][mono]
[latin-modern-cond][default][encoding=texnansi,rscale=1.1]

\setupbodyfont[mainface,ss,11pt]

But whith this new version of context (2007.04.17) I loose features for a
good number of files : It will be another post.

Thanks again for permitting us to work on ubuntu.

Thanks Sanjoy for this help, i was wondering how to install new
.deb context packages made by N.Preining but was blocked by 0.25 version
of tex-common on ubuntu/edgy.

I've noticed that on the first lines of debian install, one should add tug
repository to /etc/apt/sources.list.

Maybe it will be good (for low-end/copy-paste minded users like me) to
tell to **update** (and not upgrade) after adding those entries and how to
add gpg key to apt (that it's was retuned after such a command)

I'm not modifying the corresponding wiki page because I don't feel of
mature help in that field.

Thanks again

Thanks for the hint. I'll put on the same website
(http://profteb.free.fr/) results of changements of your source, plus
prior attempts in homework assignment/ examination test, when it'll be
done.

By the way, have you tried to make "online" tests (sendable by a click)
with random order of questions (avoid "copying" pbs thru neighboors). It's
involving javascript (answering in editable fields + feedback + collecting
answers when sending, etc. ) and I never succeed in !

Merry Christmas

Thanks for your answer Aditya,

This partialy solve the pb : it produce a 17 different pages pdf, but
page numbering is no more working.

For inserting multipage pdf, I came to the former command after having
tried :

% \slicepages
%   [mise-station.pdf]
%  [n=0,
%voffset=1in,
%height=23.55cm,
%   width=22cm,
%   offset=\dimexpr(-1in- 2pt)]
%  [offset=\dimexpr(-1in+19pt)]

% \startpagefigure [flora.pdf]
[width=\textwidth,height=\textheight][page=1]\stoppagefigure

%  \externalfigure[docs.pdf] [width=\textwidth,height=\textheight][page=1]
%  \externalfigure[docs.pdf] [width=\textwidth,height=\textheight][page=2]

I use this for easily inserting an external "child" document to a
"parent" course with big buttons for jumping back to the "parent" one.

PS : I try to "frenchise" your well documented & nice homework
assignment seen at http://dw.tug.org/pracjourn/2006-4/mahajan/

[NTG-context] pb inserting multipage documents

2006-12-20 Thread olivier Turlier
Hi everybody,

I'm experiencing pb with the latest stable version : insertion of
multipage external document leads to the rendering of only the first
page, with this command :

\getfiguredimensions[doc-guidecstb-sol-tecnic-rt2000-gobck.pdf]
\dorecurse{\noffigurepages}{\externalfigure[doc-guidecstb-sol-tecnic-rt2000-gobck.pdf]
[width=\textwidth,height=\textheight][page=\recurselevel]}

If you are interested, you can test source and see differences at this
url : http://tebcado.free.fr/context-quest/01/

TIA for the answers.

[NTG-context] xmldir : hyperlinks not working

2006-10-31 Thread olivier Turlier
Hi every Context lover/user,

I came to using xmltools for building an long (boring) list of
folders&files, with the idea of sharing a cdrom with "automount"
niceties (shellexec.exe & autorun.inf telling to open the generated pdf).

The problem is that xmltool apparently ("skip" certain portions ?) don't
"recognise" or "retranscribe" a full path, i.e if a real path is
root(K:\MESDOC\COURS\05-TEB~1\000_ZI~1)\01-at1-repres_graphic_gene\01-s8910-metre_infra\cours-ppes-metre-go-0506.pdf
firefox answer that (//media/cdrom0)/cours-ppes-metre-go-0506.pdf. is
unreachable

.tex file for creating xmldir.xml :

\useregime[il1]
\enableregime[il1]
\useencoding[ffr]
\mainlanguage[fr]

\executesystemcommand
% {texmfstart xmltools --dir --recurse
--root=K:/Mesdoc/cours/05-teb-0506/000_zip-tout
--pattern={*.pdf,*.xls} --output=xmldir.xml}
{texmfstart xmltools --dir --recurse --pattern=*.* --output=xmldir.xml}

-- command for making pdf from xmldir.xml :

texmfstart newtexexec.rb --autopdf --pdf --mode=colorscheme-red --xml
--use=dir-01 --pdf xmldir.xml

(I've tried also :
texmfstart newtexexec.rb --autopdf --pdf --mode=colorscheme-red
--root=K:/Mesdoc/cours/05-teb-0506/000_zip-tout --xml --use=dir-01 --pdf
xmldir.xml
: without success)

TIA for any answer

After update with 2006-04-24 mswincontext & cont-tmf versions, i was
unable to compile anything.

Everything went fine with previous updates, so I decided to follow exactly
wiki method for a Stand-alone ConTeXt distribution : same end.

find cont-en.fmt

As a good end user, I'm unable to investigate more, but obviously wait for
an answer/update.

(hopefully, i can borrow another xp box for continuing job)

Thanks

Maybe I was unclear, I just want to be able to recall a certain style for
certain rows : the position of the rows is not regular, as in my case,
it's for emphasis for each new letter (A,B,C, etc.) of glossary terms.

As this def is rather long, i just wanted to make a more readable code. So
I tried to put
[nc=2,background=color,backgroundcolor=screen,style=\bf,frame=off,align={right,lohi}]

in \def\Rowa#1{[nc=2,..]{#1}}

and call this def on new letter row by

%\bTR  \bTD [command=\Rowa] B \eTD \eTR % NOT WORKING
\bTR  \bTD[nc=2,background=color,backgroundcolor=screen,
style=\bf,frame=off,align={right,lohi}command=\Rowa]B \eTD \eTR
\bTR  \bTD barre \eTD \bTD \'Element de structure .. \eTD \eTR
\bTR  \bTD barre comprimée \eTD \bTD \'Eleme .. \eTD \eTR
\bTR  \bTD [nc=2,background=color,backgroundcolor=screen,
style=\bf,frame=off,align={right,lohi}command=\Rowa]C \eTD \eTR
\bTR \bTD [command=\Rowa] C \eTD \eTR % NOT WORKING
\bTR  \bTD c.. \eTD \bTD ... \eTD \eTR

This is obviousluy a minor request, since i've already copied this def on
each row manually.

Thanks again

For each letter, A, B, C, I want a screen background, spanning on 2 colomns,
with \bf style, etc. : this leads to a rather long definition that I don't wish

Thanks a lot Taco, it's working allright now.

For placing image \& text, i've switched to layer placement, because of my
ignoreance of Tex commands (placing boxes hori \& verticaly).

In the way of finding correct width for columns, i've noticed that i was
obliged to clean aux. files for seeing a graphical change.

[NTG-context] tetex3 ubuntu install (was : installing tetex on ubuntu : basics log)

2005-12-04 Thread olivier Turlier
Hi everybody,

I still have pbs for this (begin to be) hard to achieve task (compared
of unziping mswincontext.zip on a :\C drive...)

1) I can't succed in adding executables to the path, with my various
tryies, here is my .bash_profile :
if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
source ~/.bashrc
fi

export
PATH=/usr/local/teTeX/bin/i686-pc-linux-gnu:/usr/local/teTeX/bin/i686-pc-linux-gnu:/usr/local/teTeX/bin/i686-pc-linux-gnu:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/games

2) emacs+ auctex nor scite (installed before : maybe a reinstall ?) are
not context aware, so I can only texexec via the terminal
2) is texmfstart working on linux ?

PS : when everything will be fine, (tetex3 install, same .pdf results
between mswincontext and tetex3, scite linux integration (hard to change
editor now), i'll add this to ubuntu wiki section

TIA, olivier

The command # gzip -dc tetex-texmf.tar.gz \| (umask 0; cd
/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf-dist;tar xvf -)

was impossible : bash: syntax error near unexpected token `('

I've tried , as a blind experiment : remove parenthesis, umask 022,
remove \, but still same kind of syntax error.

Will try to add this experience to ubuntu section, I've done the same
install @t home, everything was fine till to the end of the tetex3
installation page. I was only obliged to install twice cont-tmf.zip,
because I was not seing the line : used engineformatpath :
/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf-config/web2c/pdfetex/ (notice difference of
paths from wiki and mine)
echo $PATH
My only remaining pb is adding *tex* executables to the path. I've tried
several ways with no success, and emacs nor scite are tex aware :
 $echo $SHELL : /bin/bash
so :$vim .bash_profile and add :
PATH=/usr/local/teTeX/bin/i686-pc-linux-gnu:$PATH; export PATH
 on top of the file + reboot

texlive 2005 doc method :
$touch .profile
$ echo "export PATH=/usr/local/teTeX/bin/i686-pc-linux-gnu:$PATH" >>
.profile
$source .profile

[NTG-context] tetex or texlive on linux

2005-11-29 Thread olivier Turlier

Hi everybody,
I'm going to install context on a linux box (ubuntu 5.10).

1) I wish to hear texnicians (rather than aficionados) words on wich tex
distro fit best for mainly context use, on fonts optimisation, for
exemple, etc.

2) is informations on contextgarden wiki are still uptodate for tetex
install ?

/.../

Sorry for not being clear enough.

"learning path" is an acronym I've found while using Dokeos elearning
platform, as an equivalent to a course i guess. For creating a
course/learning path you assemble differents documents in a l.p.. When
the alumni/trainee reads this course, he will be able what he have to
read next after the fisrt doc, and so on. I've made a graphic capture of
the webpage for showing what elements are making a learning path in the
Dokeos vision : list of doc allready readen, docs to read, progression
bar, plus the breadcrumb trail;

for lists of already learnt documents: you can make a list of
chapters/sections/subsections somewhere on the page if you have enough
place. If you would like to get the chapter/section/subsection name,
you can get them with something like
\getmarking[chapter] $>$ \getmarking[section] $>$ \getmarking[subsection]
Perhaps some "if"s are missing to check if a section/subsection is
defined, but someone else has to help you with it.

i don't want to put so much stuff in the pdfs made wit Context(apart
putting an A4 text on an A3 page!) because i keep a printable A4 format
for my courses, even i there interaction in it, for screen usage.

I'm not sure if I understood it properly, but if you need two
different versions of your documents with the same content, but
different layout, you can use modes
(http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Modes).

So i wish to have only vertical progression bars + percentage in the
inner margin. s-pre-01 "original" style show a bottom interaction bar
filled with pagenumbers drawn as little rectangles. Maybe it's possible
to draw a continuous bar with metapost, but for percentage ?

Ideally, i wish to have 2 progression bars : one for project progression
and second for product prog.

How would you calculate the project progression? The example below
calculates the percentage out of the number of pages in the current
document.

Here's an example how to make an extremely simple and ugly progression
bar at the bottom of the page. Take a look into the .mp file produced.
You'll find many other variables thay you may use to position your
progression bar properly.

\defineoverlay
  [ProgressBar A]
  [\useMPgraphic{ProgressBarA}]
\setupbackgrounds
  [text]
  [background={ProgressBar A}]

\startuseMPgraphic{ProgressBarA}
barW = 5cm;
barH = .7cm;

StartPage;
   fill unitsquare xyscaled(barW*(PageNumber/NOfPages),barH)
  withcolor .625red;
   draw unitsquare xyscaled(barW,barH);
   label.rt(textext("$" & decimal(round(100*PageNumber/NOfPages)) &
  "\,\%$"), (barW,.5barH));
   currentpicture := currentpicture shifted
(LeftMarginWidth+LeftMarginDistance,2cm);
StopPage;
\stopuseMPgraphic

\starttext

first page\page
second page\page
third page

\stoptext

I would suggest you to get familiar with metapost/metafun ("learning
metapost by doing", "the metapost manual", "metafun manual", ...) if
you aren't yet. It's a simple and great programming/drawing language
and you can do amazing things with it.

Mojca

PS: just a note. Trying to execute the code written above under MikTeX
(on the "old" ;) ConTeXt version, 2005.08.31) leads to distrous
results and nothing worked as expected. It claims
\loadfontfileoncetrue to be undefined command, it complains about file
endings (it doesn't create .mpx files, so the label(textext ...)
doesn't work) ... and so on. It may be that something is wrongly
configured here, but I'm glad that I'm able to use the minimal ConTeXt
distr. as an alternative when something fails under MikTeX.

Hi Mojca,

Thanks a lot for your mp code, I got what i want but rightnow, I don't
know how to use it exactly, maybe as follows attached (try to display a
general progression thru advancement of each courses, and show on the
same "pane" (inner margin)), list of each chapters.

I'll try to cook a minimal but working example, as I got -- in a messy
way -- almost everything for bring this new layout to life.

I started informatic at 33 when coming back to studies : 2 years later
i've done my thesis with latex (took me 2.5 years!).
Now i try to teach buiding technics and design, with the help of paper
and electronic courses made with Context. Hopefully, my boss doesn't
know that it took me sometimes 2 days for writing a one morning course!

I must recognise that sometimes I think of having a good dtp software,
but after some test, I come back to Context. In the next decades, I'll
try to succeed in quizz making and/or nice looking book. I wish to meet
people using Context one day.

[NTG-context] learning path

2005-10-17 Thread olivier Turlier

Hi everybody,

I wish to set up kind of a "learning path" (= "pedagogic" progression
bar, like in http://www.dokeos.com/scorm_compliant_course_content.php)
in the inner margin of documents issued of a project/product/component
structure. Ideally, this learning path will look like 2 full bars with
percentage indication, one for project, the other for product.

I've seen progression spots in Hans'presentations, but far from able to
reproduce them. I'm thinking that those indicators get their names
"automatically", on each new component or product made under a same
project, either via a variable mecanisme or another one I don't know
yet. Graphically, the whole mecanism must stay in a light color to not
overcome the content.

TIA for any answer

Hi Christopher,
I was trying to compile Program-sample.tex because I find the
transparent white frame over the grey background very nice to see for a
pure electronic pdf. In the same range, the vit Zyka font demo catalog
(http://typokvitek.com/stormcontext/) push hard the limit of those
transparent overlays that I'm still in quest to reproduce.

Hi,
I've felt into same pb's trying to compile s-pre-61.tex directly from
it's original source. As far I can see (just to the surface of the
screen in fact) it's related to a specific font installed at Pragma, not
available for everyone as is.
if I replace or uncomment :
   \usetypescriptfile[type-ghz]

\definetypeface[mainface][ss][sans][optima-nova][default][encoding=\defaultencoding]
   \setupbodyfont[mainface,ss,18pt]
and put such general font switch like :
   \usetypescript [modern][\defaultencoding]
   \setupbodyfont[modern,ss,11pt]
it compile without pbs.
Your installation seems rather old

[NTG-context] pdf 1.5 pb

2004-05-19 Thread olivier Turlier
Hi Contexers,
I've used Acrobat 6 to import and create .pdfs for inclusion as images, not thinking
about compatibility mode (set by default on acrobat 6 I suppose).
When I try to texexec a .tex doc with such pdf inclusions, i get this output :
Error: pdfetex (file ./pieces-graphiques-l.pdf): pdf inclusion: found pdf
version <1.5>, but at most version <1.4> allowed
 ==> Fatal error occurred, the output PDF file is not finished!

My actual system (tetex+last context beta --thanks to Patrick Gundlach for his
installcontext.sh script):
pdfetex  --version
pdfeTeX (Web2C 7.4.5) 3.14159-1.10b-2.1
texexec --version
 TeXExec 4.3 - ConTeXt / PRAGMA ADE 1997-2004
texutil --version
 TeXUtil 8.2 - ConTeXt / PRAGMA ADE 1992-2004

Thanks for your answer

Hello,
It seems that you're working on a Win$$ platform.
If you can grab "Snag-it" somewhere, you'll be able to save your
capturized images in a .png format, directly usable in Context.
Salutations.

[NTG-context] Fill-in fields

2004-04-07 Thread olivier Turlier
Hello Contexers,

I try to put a bit of user/reader interaction with javascript fields.
(I must thanks Hans for his existing docs, but even if they come in a
brilliant fashion, they don't put me to light, must get another fresh
new brain)

Working step by step, I first try to reproduce Hans given source code
exemples.

So I've copied/pasted this :

	By using \fillinfield {objects} when suited, this module saves space
anyway.

but it does not give the same output than in up-001-s.pdf (the blue
frame disapear when you type in the correct text-string, in that case :
object.

What kind of control, or preamble must I put for having this working?

Thankd in advance for your answers.

[NTG-context] Pb running ex-gui

2004-01-23 Thread olivier Turlier
Hi ConTeXers,
I've tryed to play with with ex-gui.pdf but not get any results.
I'm using : Ruby 1.8.0 + TeXlive 8 + ConTeXt  ver: 2004.1.16  fmt:
2004.1.22 int: english mes: english + XP

A question on Ruby : does it accept a namespace in a path?
	(like Program Files)
		 ^
Here, I list all the unsuccessfull commands (from the command line in
Scite) (see a complete listenig attached):
	ruby exampler --continue --setuppath=C:\Program
Files\TeXlive\texmf\context\ruby\examplap\scripts
	...

I've tried to run directly exampler script from its original
(texmf\...)location by right cliking on it and choosing "run in ruby
interpreter" , I see in a shell :
	exampler  +  program exampler
	exampler  +  version 1.0
	...
	exampler + listening at 127.0.0.1:8061 for one cycle
Then I came back in Scite for testing one of the Context specific
command like Show Documentation = texmfstart --file=showcase.pdf
--program=context (no result)
or launching (in Acrobat 6 pro) examplap.pdf : test one option
(combine), the resulting pdf page gets alays : http://127.0.0.1:8061
invalid dialog

No more ideas yet

If you have time to test them, and like to play with those nice
features, thanks for an advice.

[NTG-context] educational quiz check-in boxes

2004-01-08 Thread olivier Turlier
Hi ConTeXers,

Does anybody can show me a minimal but complete example of a quiz, using
java, since I feel too old (big/wrong excuse!) for trying to understand
javascript.

My aim is to introduce a short auto-evaluation test after a theorical
course + examples, in an interactive form (no server side storage of the
results), in the way of acrotex package.

I will share it (in french!), once working, on the the ConTeX ploned

[NTG-context] quiz

2003-12-09 Thread olivier Turlier
Hi ConteXers,
Does somebody have done a quiz , like the ones found in "exerquiz "
pdftex package (now bundled in "acrotex") from d.p. Story (info/exemples
at http://melusine.eu.org/syracuse/acrotex/exemples/ (in french) or from
the origin, in english at http://www.math.uakron.edu/~dpstory/acrotex.html)
What interesting me a lot is the abilty for the reader to auto-evaluate
himself.
I wish to setup a whole course including theorical + exercises + auto
evaluation, both (as possible) in screen and paper versions.
Thanks for the tip.
