Ah, this was the important thing. I've been placing graphics in floats
for so long that I've forgotten there's another way. I switched my
\placefigures to a plain \externalfigure and everything started
working. Obviously it's been sheer luck that the thing used to work,
now it is hopefully done as it should've been from the beginning.

Thank you,

I sent a question to the list about float placement, but it was marked

[NTG-context] float placement

2013-02-27 Thread Meer, H. van der
I would like to place a figure (float) on a page by itself, at a specific point.

Using \placefigure[force] gives me the figures at that point but not on
separate page, whereas \placefigure[page] puts it on a page but not at the
point where it should appear.
Finally \placefigure[force,page] nor \placefigure[page,force] did help.

Howto?

Yes, that's pretty bad... in subsequent tests I've found that
‘diluting’ the figures with sufficient text (like adding \page) fixes
the problem -- unfortunately mixing [here] and [page] placement (as I
need to do in my document) messes it up again. In addition, several of
my tests crash ConTeXt with the error ‘Argument of \rootfloatparameter
has an extra }’, for example:

\setuplayout[location=doublesided]
\setuppagenumbering[alternative=doublesided,location={margin,header}]
\setupfloat[figure][location=inner]
\showframe
\starttext
\input knuth
\dorecurse{4}{
\placefigure[here]{caption}{\externalfigure[cow.pdf][width=17cm]}
\input knuth
\placefigure[page]{caption}{\externalfigure[cow.pdf][width=17cm]}
\input knuth
% \input knuth % uncomment this line to make the file work
}
\stoptext

Again, this works with v2011.02.25 (although figure numbers are mixed
up).

I think I'll have to give up on this now and revert to the old version,
but I'll put a pointer to this thread on the Wiki in case anyone else
runs into similar problems.

Re: [NTG-context] Float placement in margin

2010-04-27 Thread Antoine Cailliau
After looking a bit more, I'm looking for a more generic solutions
where I can put paragraphs as well in margin.

In my thesis, I've a lot of blocks (defined by framed) that I need to
put in the margin with my text continuing his flow normally.
\inmargin does not seems to work (a dark story with open/close
brackets make the compilation fails)

Thanks for your comment :)

Cheers,

Antoine

 I am interested in this question as well. It could be really nice if
 \placefigure[margin,bottom] could be made to work.
That would be awesome :)

[NTG-context] Float placement in margin

2010-04-26 Thread Antoine Cailliau
Dear all,

I would like to put a figure my edge margin, at the bottom of the page.
(so, the bottom left corner on my left pages).

I tried \inmargin but the figure is not placed in margin but at the top
of the page.

I tried \placefigure[margin] but it is placed on the top of the margin.
This is nearly what I want :)

Any clue for me ?

Thanks in advance,

Antoine
