NT4 Registry entry for SP level ?
Does anyone know the exact subkey and value that contains the service pack level for NT 4 ? Im writing a KixTart script and I need to retrieve that value. RE: NT4 Registry entry for SP level ?
If anyone is interested I found my answer: To determine the current Windows NT Service Pack level installed, you can query the registry, useful for script automation, using the following Windows NT Registry hack: Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Key: system\CurrentControlSet\control\windows Name: CSDVersion Type: REG_DWORD Value: 0x100 SP1 Value: 0x200 SP2 Value: 0x300 SP3 Value: 0x400 SP4 Value: 0x500 SP5 Value: 0x600 SP6 Chris Bodnar The Lehigh Group 610-966-9702 X:134 -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, September 26, 2001 11:41 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: NT4 Registry entry for SP level ? This is from the MS website FAQ: http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/support/faqs/sp6faq.asp#1.4 SP6a's install program marks a registry key you can check. If HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Hotfix\Q246009\Installed = 1, it's SP6a. The key won't exist if it's SP6. IE Update MS01-027, command line switches ?
Does anyone know if there is an undocumented command line switch for q295106.exe (Security Update MS01-027). I am scripting this and there is a /Q switch for quiet mode, but it still prompts the user to reboot the machine. I would like a switch that forces the machine to reboot as with the HotFixes m f switches. Any suggestions? Chris Bodnar The Lehigh Group 610-966-9702 X:134 Want to unsub? RE: What to check if my IIS server has been compromised.
James, Here is a description of the damage it causes: http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=PE_NIMDA.A Also look for Admin.dll, root.exe and lots of files in the %systemdrive%\Inetpub\Scripts directory that begin with TFTP. You back up the HTTDB and LOG directories, uninstall the Officescan server, then reinstall it, and replace the new HTTDB and LOG directories with the backed up ones voila all of your clients appear (you can also use ipxfer.exe in the client login script to get them associated with the server again if they dont reappear). The Televantage package from Artisoft is OK, and worth putting into the mix as a comparison. The 3com product is interesting, but I don't have enough experience I've seen the Cisco product, but not recently, although it also looked interesting. The first two, from Altigen and Artisoft, allow you to place standard analog phones on the desktop, and centralize the VOIP in the server, which incidentally both work well under Win2K. They also have a multitude of other features which make office automation easier. The other two require you (at my last experience with them) to have proprietary phones, which were much more expensive. This may have changed for either or both of Cisco and 3Com products, however, as I have not seen them in a while. Exchange: 9215 error
Exchange 5.5 SP2 NT 4.0 SP6a We have an X.400 connector setup over dial-up with one of our vendors and they are telling us that over the last 2 weeks they have been experiencing a problem where the connection seems to be terminating abnormally and the messages are transferred to our system, but backing up on their system, because they are not receiving a confirmation that the messages have been transferred. I have found a number of articles that seem very similar. The one that most closely describes our situation is Q193380. But the only Event ID associated with this on our Exchange server is 9215. The relevant KB articles referencing 9215 are: Q170056 Q154301 Q164400 Q182619 Q261251 But none seem to really pertain to this situation. I am considering going to SP4, but I found mention of a similar error that only manifests itself with SP3 or 4. So I am a little leery of doing this on a production server. Has anyone come across this before? TIA Chris Bodnar The Lehigh Group 610-966-9702 X:134 http://www.sunbelt-software.com/ntsysadmin_list_charter.htm
RE: NT 4 VPN and TCP/IP only
Title: NT 4 VPN and TCP/IP only Why dont you want to use WINS, it would solve you problem? You can use LMHOSTS files as a replacement. There are a few issues with running the logon scripts. How many DCs? If more than one are you sure the logon script exists on all DCs? On the Win 9x clients are they using the windows login first? If so logon scripts wont run. Those clients must bypass the Windows logon when booting up, and then when they validate against the VPN server it will prompt them to logon , and run the logon scripts. Has anyone successfully set this up as described in Q177335 ? I have setup a regular demand dial interface using a modem before using RRAS, so I am familiar with the procedure. We have a remote location that will soon be acquiring a 256K fractional T1 for Internet access. Relatively small office, ~25 users. I am trying to decide weather or not to set this up as a separate subnet and have them use the RRAS server with this type of configuration. My other option would be to have each machine initiate a PPTP connection. My other considerations in this scenario are if the RRAS server is a BDC and an Exchange server, what will the performance be like. Our connection here at corporate is a full T1. Funny thing is, I can connect to this PC in Computer Management, I can stop and start services, view the shares, Local Users and Groups, but if I click on Event Viewer, I get the same message. I can ping the IP, the name, map a drive and everything, so the connectivity is definitely there. Server B can view Server A's event log, but ServerA cannot connect to Server B.
