Re: Certification time?

2012-09-18 Thread IS Technical
Hi folks,

I'm looking for recommendations for a small desktop page scanner
which has built in eMailing capabilities OR can invoke a command
line mailer (such as Blat) on the system to which it is connected.

Thanks.

gmail outages

2011-07-07 Thread IS Technical
Can anyone tell me if there have been any major Gmail outages in the
last week. One if my customers uses gmail on his home system and
claims that service has been down or intermittent in the last week.

I haven't seen any news confirming this on the usual websites I
monitor for this kind of news.

Thanks.

Take a look at the Samsung SC3205W MFP. A very nice
little laser MFP for under $150. I've placed these in a
number of customers with great success.

It's very good. The Pro version is excellent value and
allows for the use of multiple "Batch Printers" which can

A great tool which uses very few system resoucres.

Agentless hardware inventory tool

2010-07-21 Thread IS Technical
Can anyone recommend an agentless tool (freeware or not) which
will inventory system on a network and generate a hardware report
of systems on the network. All systems run Windows (various
versions).

A scriptable tool is preferred but tools with GUIs are OK.

Many thanks.

Acronis Backup & Recovery Advanced Workstation 10

2010-07-12 Thread IS Technical
Has anyone been able to get Acronis Backup & Recovery Advanced
Workstation working. I've installed all the components of the
licensed version a number of times on various machines without
success. I've even tried various builds including the latest one
without success.

The persistent problem across all the installations is that I get
this pop up in the system tray: "acornis managed machine service
in unavailable" (presumably it's the reason I can't connect to
the agent on the test machine). Of course, the service is
running.

I found the problem reported in the Acronis forums a year ago,
and Acronic support claiming that it would be fixed in "the next
build' (presumably released some time ago).

Next step: go throughout the painful process of dealing with
Acronis support.

Why not download the latest Malware Bytes rules file
(mbam-rules.exe) on another system and and run it on
the problem system in safe mode. It will install the
latest defs to the Malware Bytes folder.

Changing MY DOSS location using script or batch file after log in

2009-06-05 Thread IS Technical
Anyone know if it possible to change the location of MY DOCUMENTS on-the-fly
after a user logs in using a batch file or script?

This is for a Windows XP Pro machine running on a network with no DC.

I've tried importing the relevant reg keys from a script but this doesn't
seem to work.

Thanks..

OT: Sunbelt contact

2008-11-12 Thread IS Technical
Does anyone have the name of a Sunbelt contact who I can call directly who
would be able to answer some specific technical Vipre-related questions.

FYI, I've tried to get to the right person using Sunbelt's general numbers
but have been playing telephone tag with someone who never seems to be there
(at least when I call). I should say I haven't been available the one time I
was called.

Re: Good text editor

2008-10-06 Thread IS Technical
#What's the best text editor out there for writing code and scripts and such?
I'd like to find
#one that does line numbering obviously, and does some formatting to keep
things neat.
#Like color coding expressions, functions, etc. I'm trying to learn
JavaScript, and using
#Notepad and Dreamweaver are proving difficult.

JEdit.
