2010-10-08 Thread Erik Goldoff
Stu,
My first feedback, before I can comment on the content, is that it RUDELY
maximized my browser window on my screen without asking, and without need,
it doesn't even come close to filling up the screen on my 22" monitor.

In most cases, when a site does that, I'm not to fast to return. Just my
two cents on what I consider invasive web design

So far, so good.

When the finished product comes out, I'd pass that link around to our staff.

I didn't see options for the name, however.

RE: Could use your feedback...

2010-10-09 Thread Ralph Smith
Stu,

It looks good, but I do have a couple of comments.

On the slide that has the case studies: I know my users, and as soon as
the narration stops and they are expected to read a few paragraphs of
text, most of them will skip over it. If I were doing it I would
automatically go to each case study and continue reading it out loud.
Also, if it is known how the scam was pulled off, such as an example of
the phishing email, showing that would have an impact on end users.

On the Dangerous Emails slide I would say the same thing - read the
explanation for each type of email out loud. Showing an example email
highlighting the tip offs of why it is suspect would also be
interesting.

Other than that, I like it and would like to be able to have my end
users view something like this.

This is a good point. Also worth mentioning is the inverse: I can
read much faster than someone can speak understandably, and it always
frustrates me when I'm forced to sit and listen to a narrator. Good
idea on providing the option to read the script. (This also makes
your training accessible to deaf people.) My only complaint is that
"Notes" didn't seem obvious; calling that tab "Script" or "Read" or
something like that might be better.

when I see something like this.

Case studies: should have "Next Case" button at bottom R of each screen. Also,
the "Next" button you're supposed to click is not clearly labelled for
continuing -- and none of the other screens ask you to click that button but
instead they advance automatically. Instead there should be a "Continue"
button on the final "Case Study" screen.

Dangerous emails: What "Flashing lights"? I see grey "i" buttons with rings
moving around them.

"Advance >>" button on final screen does nothing.

So, it seems kind of silly to ask users to select "Myth" or "Truth" when they
can look at the outline on the left of the screen and clearly see the answer.
Maybe those slide titles could be changed so as not to give away the answer?

Remember that your users are not your employees. If you don't sign their

2010-10-11 Thread John Hornbuckle
We hold mandatory IT security awareness training annually. In fact, this week I
start going around and giving this year's spiel.

I like the idea of online training to supplement what I do, but I won't be
giving up the in-person training. I spend most of my time in my office, so lots
of people in my organization can't put a face to the name. The annual training
lets me go out in the field and get face-time with everypme, which is really
important when trying to build a relationship between IT and users.

Ok, maybe not *make* them do it, but get their managers to make it mandatory.
We're doing mandatory safety meetings and such (part of our
NSF140 cert requirements) so getting this 20 minute tutorial added probably
wouldn't be a stretch. :-)

Good luck with that.

Remember that your users are not your employees. If you don't sign their
paychecks, making them do anything that you can't enforce with a GPO probably
is NOT going to happen.

(And creating a GPO that only allows them to run the tutorial is probably not a
wise move)

I rather like it!

1. One of the "True or Myth" questions is rather annoying! The part about
the number of spam messages sent is (a really big number) - when this is
"Myth" because the real number is much higher? People do not like trick
questions!

2. Although the fact that antivirus products are always out-of-date (point
being to not rely on them), I think firewalls should also be discussed.
One a phish is successful, then the malware is on the "secure" side of the
firewall. At this point, it is "free" to download other, more damaging
malware (as well as to spread it about on the internal network). In other
words, the user should not rely on the fact that there is a firewall in
place.

Thanks!

Re: Could use your feedback...

2010-10-11 Thread James Winzenz
I have submitted my feedback on the name, and others have already mentioned
about certain typos in the content. My concern is more that the content is
so brief that I worry about it not sinking in. Also, in the case studies,
you mention examples with banks, schools, and organizations - how about some
real-world examples of how individuals were affected? I think that it helps
to paint a much clearer picture to someone if they see how phishing and
social engineering directly affects them and not a faceless business or
school. My 2 cents . . .

2010-10-11 Thread Stu Sjouwerman
Thanks VERY much guys, this is great feedback. I'm taking all
these points back to the developers. It's only the first few
minutes of the training. The rest will be scenarios that will
make sure it gets drilled in so that they really get it.

PS: this is meant to be part of a company's regular mandatory
ISAT program, or be the start of one if no program is in place.

Thanks again!

Warm regards,

Stu

So far, so good.

When the finished product comes out, I'd pass that link around to our staff.

I didn't see options for the name, however.
